I have been at games where, beacause of my position in the crowd, much of the action was in silhouette. One match at Old Trafford was particularly bad.

Increases sponsorship space. Common sense. Looks good. Do it.

It brings in revenue, but it can be damn annoying if trying to watch the match action when an advert flashes across the advertising boards. Human instinct causes you to divert your attention, even if only briefly.

Noticed that a couple of times at the Wigan games last year but didn't really notice it in the 4 Nations

For the last few matches at the DW last season we had the LED screens. I found the 'scrolling text' more annoying than the flashing of the adverts. Made it a little difficult to follow the action at times. But hey-ho, if it increases revenue from sponsors.

I despise them because I feel I lose track of the ball too much when seated opposite them because of the constant movement. I now actively seek out seats opposite the cameras at ground that have them because they annoy me so much - at least that way I only have the 'goal end' adverts to contend with.

Keep it coming, you set of miserable buggers...

What's miserable about moaning about a new 'innovation' that actually reduces my ability to watch the game clearly? I agree with all the moaners on this thread, happy to be in their clique.

That's the whole point of advertising - to attract your attention.

Problem is its too bloody good at it.

Static adverts were more subliminal in that you saw them but didnt think much of them, however they still log a record in your mind.
These electronic flashing adverts are very "in your face" and shout out to the human races primeval anti predator defences, causing your brain to perceive them as a potential threat that needs to be observed. As a result you stop watching the sport you actually came to pay for.

I've seen them at Wigan but I can honestly not recall what advert they were playing - so on that basis, why not charge companies to advertise.. seems a masterstroke.

How much will advertising space on them cost? Anybody want to chip in and buy space opposite the commentary team to proclaim 'you don't know what you're talking about, and everyone knows its a wig!'
