Quote THE exodus of stars from the NRL will become history under a new television rights deal that will lift the salary cap to $7 million for the 2013 season and provide minimum $100,000 pay-rises to senior players.
At least 80 new "jobs" will be created for stars who have been lost to the English Super League and rival codes in recent seasons under the plan which will also double the NRL's annual grant to the clubs from $3.65 million to $7.5 million. The bonanza will ensure league never loses players of the calibre of our list opposite again.
The money from the soon-to-be-negotiated TV deal, worth an estimated $1 billion over five years, will allow clubs to increase their current 25-man NRL rosters to 30 to address the serious issue of player burnout in a season crammed with 26 rounds, finals, Origin, Tests and City Country.'"
lets hope it does go up to $7million....then we can spend our extra money on developing our kids

| The less overpaid aussies in our game the better surely. Even if it lessons the competition a little. We need to foster an environment whereby the next generation are given their chance ahead of journeymen and where it doesn't pay to get in a load of average aussies. But when relying on youth means you risk missing the play offs or finishing in the bottom 2, what do you do?

| Good. Wigan will no doubt apply to be exempt from the salary cap because of this. Hull KR might as well fold.

| It will be great news for overseas players in Super League, the NRL will have to find the players from somewhere.

You asked a question , I told you what the answer will be
The ' big ' clubs will imediatley request for an increase in the SL salary cap , even to the detriment of the competitiveness of SL , and quite possibly to the detriment of current and future expansion plans
Calm down , it's not all about you and me

| Sounds good, should happen, but could cause problems for the talent in our league. We've already lost Burgess, Ellis and Graham to the NRL, if they have more money than more could go. That might be good for the starting line up of the England team, but if the best Aussies and English end up playing in the NRL how are we going to bring on our youngsters. Who will they learn from?

Quite ironic considering it's your club who have just signed 2 overseas players for next year replacing eastmond and graham....

as they should, it is a scandal the SC has been the same for 10 years now, which in real terms is a reduction year on year. In a franchised SL clubs which cant compete shouldnt be in SL.
Whats sad is that this wont mean a massive reduction in overseas players, simply a massive reduction in the quality of overseas players coming over, and an increase in the amount of quality players from here going over there.

It should mean a massive reduction , but as you said it won't , as for the Salary cap or the inability of clubs to build themselves , that's the way it is , nothing will change , in 10 years Quins will still be struggling to draw more than 3,000 if they are still around , Crusaders will be gone , Huddersfield and Salford will still be getting a lot less than the required 10,000 , and Bradford will still be giving away season tickets for 70 quid and playing out of Odsall

I agree, while the inevitable loss of some of Englands best players isnt good for super league, it is far better that they are lost to the NRL than to Union. Rugby league being successful anywhere in the world has to be a good thing. Perhaps it will be a catalyst for the growth of international rugby league in England, with possibly the majority of the England team playing in the NRL, people should be far more attracted to going to watch internationals with it being their only opportunity to watch the best English players play.

Hate to widdle on anyones cornflakes, but [uIF[/u the NRL gets the same level of increase in TV deal that the AFL did, then $795,000,000 will be the deal. That would be 2 million a club less per year than the "article" says.
The PR/Spin exercise by the NRL is sometimes embarrasing. I reckon that some of these guys believe if they keep saying 1 billion dollars then that's what they will get.
As for the last bit.....
"Even financially struggling clubs like Penrith, Cronulla and the Titans would be capable of surviving and matching it with the premiership heavyweights under the new grants and salary cap"...penrith are reported to have made losses in excess of $22,000,000 over the last 2 years.....you do the maths.

| Whilst I'd agree the eventual outcome is yet to be known, it is likely to see a significant increase over the current deal and the bottom line is that the cap will be raised significantly.
Add to that the effect of exchange rate differences (dollar up in ten years from £0.45 to £0.66 and rising) and to argue it won't impact SL imports is plain silly. When the likes of Liam Fulton can go back from an average career in SL to being average in the NRL, many more of those sorts of players will stay in Aus as the money difference will be minor. NRL teams will also seek to expand overall squad sizes because a number of teams are straight into juniors with any injuries.

I agree that we could lose some star England players, but like you said, it's better for the England team that they are playing in the best competition, and i'd rather lose them to the NRL and keep them in league than them go to union.

| Morley has already been there, done that and got the T-Shirt......but who out of the other 31 would be able to cut it in the NRL?
Or, put another way, if this is the best England has to offer how come there are only 3 guys currently in the NRL.
