Really bad decision by the video ref! Fair enough rules and interpretation, but with a call like that surely must go with the on field refs decision of no try.

Acts like that from Ashton Sims is exactly why Wire don't deserve a win. If there forwards were like Hill and kept there heads down and concentrated more on playing rugby than being niggly dummy spitters they may just win a game.

I thought it was a real tough call. Without the on field decision I thought it was a try as Ratchford, at full speed, looked to me as if he was trying to knock it dead.

That said the rules say the VR has to have conclusive proof to overturn the decision and clearly in this case they didn't. No try for me.

It was the right decision. He clearly wasn't trying to ground it.

Poor all round, scrappy play, bad discipline, poor officiating and the commentary team are just awful.

I agree that he wasn't trying to ground it but do you think it was conclusive enough to overturn the on field decision? That is key in the rules this year.

why wouldn't ratchford just have grounded it?

i don't agree with the rule tho, if it's grounded it's grounded IMO regardless off "intent", would the same apply if an attacking player grounded the ball accidentally? i'm pretty sure the try would be awarded regardless of he intended to ground it or not.

They obviously thought so. It's one that will always divide opinion.

The rule was changed after a couple of fullbacks slipped carrying the ball out of their ingoal, grounded it and a drop out was ruled even though they didn't intend to ground it. People complained at the time that the rule was stupid because they clearly weren't trying to ground it, it was unintentional. Moral of the story is that fans are going to complain about the rules and the referees either way

I see Ben Flower is still the same scumbag as he was at the end of last season. I'd say he needs to learn but he hasn't got two brain cells to rub together.

Flower unfortunately proving he still can't control himself. No need for a punch there especially from behind. Needs a game or 2 ban, mostly due to his prior record.

But Simms needs to be brought to task for that stamp. IIRC he did it in the previous Wire v Wigan game too. He obviously can't control himself too, which is a shame because if he did he'd be a much better player.

To punch someone you have to have a closed fist. Fair play he was aggressive about it. If it was a punch it was the weirdest looking punch I've ever seen, and we all know he can throw a punch.

The refs don't always get it right - eg. Wigan's first try.

Even if you consider it to be a punch. That's twice. I wonder how many Rugby players have punched another player more than twice? Let's bring them up shall we? What about Mr Westwood? Or even Mr Simms who gave a few - unprovoked - to Williams last time round and then tried to stamp on Mossops hand.
