| Whilst our thoughts are obviouslg with Mose following his career ending incident, I hope we are politely asking for cap dispensation because of the unique situation even though we are below the salary cap.
On the other hand, how on earth can Toronto already be at their salary cap and only have 23 players? According to Nobel they are asking for dispensation.

| Masoe is an obvious dispensation. He will not play a game in the salary-cap year, so shouldn't be counted.
Toronto are taking the Michael. My understanding is that they want SBW's salary to be removed from the cap until he plays a game, removing whatever they have paid him so far and however much they pay him until he actually plays.

| I think KR will obviously get salary dispensation as there is precedent for that but they are also asking for quota space dispensation as well - is that right? There is no precedent for that but I'd expect them to get it and hope they do.
Nothing against TWP but there is no way in hell they should get dispensation 2 weeks from the season start for the simple fact that they have mismanaged their player contracts and salary cap. They can ask as much as they want but I can't see them getting it.

Quota spot doesn't need dispensation. As soon as Masoe is de-registered, the spot is free. They will need dispensation to remove this year's salary from the cap though as payments will have already been made.

| This is going to be more of a recurring issue so long as the championship continues to become more and more competitive at the top of the table.
I have no idea how much the likes of Leigh, Toulouse, London and Featherstone are spending at the minute but the more and more they push each other, the higher their wage bill will rise and when they get promoted they will find themselves with less and less room to maneuver under the cap.
In Toronto's case they just went all out last season and clearly spent big to make sure they got promoted. And now they're stuck with the same players and no room on the cap.

Makes sense - can't see any issue then after Wire got dispensation for Brown last year.

| McDermott's argument would make sense, if it wasn't for the fact that they are spending massive money on individual players.
It's like that one friend that everyone has who claims to be destitute, but spends their life flying to exotic private islands and shopping in Waitrose.

| They put all their eggs in one basket when they paid a fortune to sign Sonny Bill Williams, and even funnier that they have no idea when he might actually get to play for them, absolutely priceless. Well done to all concerned !

He’s not the main issue though is he? Or Leutele as they are marquee players. It’s the £100k contracts handed out to mediocre Superleague players. O’Brien had his salary doubled when he signed from Salford for example.

| Just one word for McDermott and TWP , unlucky.
Who do they think they are ??
Should we change the cap rules everytime a club gets promoted from the Championship.
It's worrying that their squad from last season is so expensive and that they are committed to the same (just about) group of players.
As other posters have suggested, they seem to be stuffed for going with such an expensive squad last season, who appear on the face of it to have been massively overpaid.

Correct, SBW and Luetele will obviously count for their ÂŁ150k per year, but nothing more than that. They are overpaying average players, which is always the case when you have a club in the championship / bottom of SL trying to spend big to sign the best - players want to be paid more to play for lower placed clubs.
I think the complaint is that players have to house themselves in Toronto, as well as pay for a house back home in the UK as the families aren't going to move to Toronto full time given the players are in the UK more than half the time anyway. I understand the argument, but it will be a tough one to get the SL chairmen to agree on. When Catalan play games in the UK I presume the cost of housing them in hotels will be classed as an operating expense and not a perk. The RFL obviously classify the Toronto situation differently as they will be living there for a number of weeks and it is there home patch.

And we all thought that Toronto was the dream destination for RL players
On the subject of "non playing" costs. It must cost them a small fortune to come accross to Europe, even if this is in 2 game blocks.
However, I'm sure that this was fully thought through before they began chasing the SL dream and there is extra cost for the existing SL clubs (going in the other direction) - not exactly ideal when most SL clubs are barely keeping their heads above water.
And there are some who believe that SL should include 4/5 such clubs, along with 2 French sides

Yep. And there is kind of a precedent with a London allowance being present in the salary cap rules. So maybe something similar could be afforded overseas clubs too.
I believe the London Allowance is 10%.

Catalan were around 25% to the good with their "preferential" exchange rate.
Mind you, in order to spend "extra", the overseas clubs still need to generate the cash in the first place.
Does anyone know how big the season on season "hole" is at Toronto ÂŁ3 million ??

The exchange rate is swings and roundabouts. If the value of the pound increases vs the Euro after its next set for Catalans they’ll obviously struggle.
If we have a London Allowance in recognition of significantly higher costs for 1 team that is effectively out of their control I don’t see why Toronto or Catalans shouldn’t get some kind of allowance either.
Or do away with the London Allowance too. Either we recognise specific circumstances or we don’t.
I also think people are massively overreacting to McDermotts comments. If they’re the ones I’ve seen I don’t see a whinge. Merely a statement of where they are.
