I'd fly to NYC...... Get the amtrack to niagra, stay in downtown toronto, catch a blue jays game whilst having lunch at the hard rock and stay in a motel rather than a hotel..... 1/3rd the cost before flying back out of toronto. That said... Its been 18 years since i was last there so no doubt a lot has changed...... But chips, gravy and cheese is still a delacy i expect.

You had me, right up until the chips, gravy and cheese.
Tbf, hotels are easy but, some cheap flights would be useful.

| I've just booked via Air Transat - it would have been reasonable if they hadn't charged me £80 for luggage (i'm going for a week so had no choice). I couldn't find anything better going direct and going via somewhere else wasn't cheap enough to make it worthwhile. I'll sort out hotels later but as you say they are pretty easy.

| I went with Air Canada Rouge to/from Manchester. Transport from airport to downtown Toronto is cheap and regular (approx. £7 by train, 20mins and £2.50 bus/subway, 1hr). The ground is a 30mins or so walk from the centre west along King Street - there is also a tram that stops right outside the ground. For a pre (and/or post) match beer with the friendly locals, walk down Atlantic Ave (just east of the ground) from King St West , turn left on to Liberty St and walk till you get to the 3 Brewers pub.
Single journeys on the bus/subway/tram system cost CAD3.25 (approx. £2.50) and allow multiple hop ons and offs for (I think) 2hrs from 1st scanning in. The city (and transport system) felt safe even late at night.

| We've booked from Leeds to Toronto via Amsterdam with KLM (although it was cheaper to book through Virgin Atlantic). The connections are actually pretty reasonable.

If you're happy to do connection flights ,you're easily pleased and doing it for the sake of it.

I think on the way there it's 50-60 mins. Can't remember on the way back. Considering that it'll take me about that to get to Manchester, vs flying from my back yard, that's not bad n my view.
The few hundred quid cheaper is more than worth it as well.

Why? I'm pretty used to it. It means I can take-off / land closer to home and I've saved a fair few quid doing it.

Completely agree. Looked at Air Transat direct from Manchester and I was paying £100 more compared to flying out of Leeds. Thats not including Taxi/Train to Manchester or Petrol/Parking.

You never asked
In fairness, Leeds playing there in the school holidays is a bit of a kicker, but we got the flights in for around £450, which I don't think is horrendous for transatlantic flights slap in the middle of the school break. Direct flights were coming in at over £700. We'll sort the digs later.
As for whether it's a lot of money "for a game of rugby", that depends on your outlook I suppose. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm going mid-July for a week. Flights were £535 (direct). Hopefully hotels/accommodation will get the whole thing around a grand or so but I'll book over Christmas.

If you make a holiday out of it, the costs are not shocking but, if you cost it as going to watch a game of RL, it's quite ridiculous.
Perpignan is possible on a budget but, Toronto is a "one off" kind of trip (unless you're loaded) and at the risk of thread drift, there wont be any Toronto fans coming over for the weekly rounds but, that doesn't seem to matter anymore
It's just a good job that Toronto fans have never grown up with the sport as they instantly lose 3 games because of the weather and the away games are just impossible/ unreasonable for them to attend so, they get to make do with 8 games a season ?? and some say that it might last

They've got 11 games at Lamport, which is two more competitive home games that the Toronto Argonaughts had this year. It doesn't seem to be a problem for them.
I don't understand why people keep applying British fan culture to a completely different one.

Sorry, I hadn't factored in the "loop" fixtures
And you're right, we shouldn't think of them in terms of being a regular SL side, as they dont abide by much of the standard criteria that is a pre requisite for other clubs competing in the top flight.
As for their fans, they ARE being short changed but, I guess that is their problem - what they've never had, they will never miss.
