Last Friday's Daily Telegraph in Syd had a full page on how AFL had recruited more participants than RL since 07. I thought that was a bit unbelievable. But then again, aussies and accurate figures isn't something that goes hand in hand. I recent moved to the Northern Beaches and have noticed banners recruiting kids to AFL and there's also a pitch near me that is for the Pitter Tigers Junior AFL!!!

Football (soccer) had the greatest number of participants by miles.

Is it AFL's deceit in publishing Ozkick figures as participants or ARL's naivety they don't?

One thing that is indisputable and that is that AFL does a shed load more work in schools nationally than ARL does. Every state has the Ozkick programme running in most schools, simply doesn;t exist in alot of parts of the country for RL, or if it does it is on a very small scale.

I was chatting to a friends two 12 year old boys at the weekend here in Perth. They had no idea what NRL was, had never seen it and was amazed when I told them about the big hits and amazing passing skills. At school they get to play AFL, soccer, basketball and recently had the WARU and Force run some sessions. No RL ever in all their years at school.

but don;t blame the AFL for doing it, blame the ARL for not! Who in their right mind doesn't manipulate statitics for their own good, especially when $'s are linked to participation.

but the ARL, NRL and their clubs already manipulate figures like attendances, salary caps etc. Please don't be so naïve to think only the AFL do.

Aussie rules and RL manipulate figures so much that they are leaving the back door wide open for soccer.
