Does anybody know if Sky or ESPN have the rights to the NRL for next season?

I bloody hope so...

We missed out on a great run to the end of the season last year.

Isn't it going to be subscription based on the internet from next season? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

I wonder if you might be able to get it on the PS3 streamed through, like you can the BBC Iplayer?

having got used to seeing the NRL it was awful not having access when Setanta went bust.

ESPN would be my first choice I have to say.

Unfortunately ESPN have the rights to next seasons Aussie rules games. As these games clash with the NRL, I would say its unlikely that they would bid for the contract.

Regarding internet streaming, there as always been an internet based subscription service available. This was provided by big pond. For a few quid a month you can watch all NRL games, I wouldn't recommend it myself, the streams were unreliable and quality appalling.

On the ESPN website when you go through the pages to sign up, it says that they have coverage of the NRL.

The NRL should go back on Sky.

It should go to who ever give it the best exposure.

When Setanta first got it, it was far superior to Skys coverage. Sky showed one live game on a Saturday and a delayed game on a Sunday. Setanta showed the same plus the Friday night game and the footy show.

Are you sure your not getting mixed up with AFL, i've just checked the link and didn't find anything at all about the NRL. I maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

I really hope someone bids for it other than ESPN because off clashes with the AFL games I don't think you will see much live rugby. ESPN took up the rights for the French top 14 RU competition, over Eurosport. With scheduling problems your lucky to get one live game a week. Hopefully it won't come to that!

Its a lot easier to hit the off button than come on here and moan about it.

I used to watch the Footy show back in the mid 1990's

I watched the NRL Grand Final on ESPN this year, haven`t heard anything to say it won`t be on ESPN next year aswell.

Its far better than the Boot n all show we have in England with them two muppets

Boots n all is terrible! It's a mixture of short highlights (not even all the tries, terrible topics and chat, and terrible analysis on the games.

Part of me quite enjoys listening to Eddie and Stevo doing the international footy commentary on sky

I particularly enjoy it when Eddie starts to lose his rag with Stevo and they start bickering about Englands tactics...or lack of them

ESPN only showed one AFL game a week when they had the rights to all of them during the play-offs, and I imagine they would do the same with NRL. They're so cheap they would rather show a 5th re-run of a Bundesliga game than a live Aussie game in the morning when there's nothing else on. Having only one channel makes it even harder to show much. Surely no-one pays for ESPN America alone, would anyone cry if they put an Australian game on it early?

You'd be surprised how popular that channel is. They were crying galore on another forum when it was rumour ESPN America would turn into a general ESPN sport channel - as it turned out they kept both.

Personally I think it'll be ESPN or nothing for the NRL. I think Sky will only be interested I think if the rights are given to them really cheap.

You have to remember though that Sky's coverage of NRL was pretty crap. Ok they had Origin and we got try highlights on Boots n All but the Live game they gave us was always the Saturday 10:30am game - which (because it's how the rights work in Australia) is always the match that Channel 9/Fox Sports deem to be the worst choice of the week.

Some weeks the coverage was widescreen, other times it wasn't. Not forgetting to mention Tulsen Tollett!

I have Sky so I hope they get the rights, but only if they give us the better choice of games.
