Why is it?

Rather be at Widnes in a warm(ish) stadium than on that terracing again at KR. Needless to say I won't miss it.

If they want Super League at Widnes put them in in Saints place for next season. Then when Saints have a ground they can come back in

That is just stupid. A club isn't defined by where they play. It's a ridiculous logic. I'll let you work out why.

Sports clubs go in temporary homes all the time, its a SL standard stadium (even more than Knowsley Road, truth be told). Plus why only let Widnes in for one year?

We'll be in it before the 2012 season anyway, just the 2011 season will be at Widnes.

How have they got no stadium? If they're paying rent to play at a premier quality stadium, then they've got a premier quality stadium. It's no different to Wigan playing at DW Stadium. In fact, it's better. A Rugby League club is getting the money instead of a football club.

Wigan have other income streams at the stadium, even if they don't own it - Saints won't have these benefits. That said, don't see what the fuss is; everyone knew it would happen and it's only for a season before Saints get their new stadium. It also offers the opportunity for the Saints-Wigan game to be taken to a new audience elsewhere with a bigger capacity.

A new stadium usually takes best part of a year to build. Why shouldn't Saints move a few miles down the road to a modern stadium while their's is being built?

I'm sure Widnes are more than happy with the arrangement so I don't see why there's this uproar

does anyone know (not can anyone speculate) the specific reason why saints could not remain at knowsley road until the new stadium is built?

I assume the lands been sold and the owners want to make use on that land.

I'm happy. Widnes is actually closer to my house in South Liverpool than KR is.
A year at the Halton/Stobart/Whatever is far from an unpleasant thought, and at the end we'll be in a shiney, new, RL dedicated stadium that will be the envy of many fans through the game.

there is a clause in the contract that unless Saints are vacated from Knowsley Road at the end of 2010, the housing developers (Taylor Wimpey???) can renegotiate the price they are paying. As the housing market has crashed since the contract was originally agreed, no doubt the value of the land has similarly crashed - therefore it makes no financial sense for Saints to stay another year and get a load less cash.

If St Helens get a Super League licence and Widnes don’t what an outrage that will be.

I can only assume that those trolling the forums at the moment about this issue are just out fishing. It's a complete non-issue.

Saints are getting a new ground for 2012 and it compensates the proud league fans of the Widnes area for their refusal for a franchise with some SL rugby.

It'll also give Widnes some experience of off pitch big match organisation that'll stand them in good stead for 2012.

The only farce here in the Saints fans having to travel outside the boundaries on St Helens for a home game. Its bad timing from the St Helens board. It could cost St Helens trophies next year. And that is a year down the pan for the careers of the Saints players.

The RFL won't dare to not give Widnes a SL licence when they have housed the 2 biggest names in British RL in the last 3 years.

Yep, and in addition to Wigan and Widnes, Saints arent a bad team to have hosted either.
