The idea is to see if the marquee rule is already having an early effect and whether SL is gaining a higher calibre of player than it's losing to rival comps (so doesn't include retirees).

Chris Sandow could be the first use of the marquee player allowance. He's on £260,000 a season in the NRL currently.

But are clubs going to have to declare it's use anyway? We don't have a clue what clubs are spending on the cap currently and even Wigan are claiming they aren't using it on Tomkins.

Wigan have only ever said they ARE using it on Tomkins. After the Marquee rule was announced SW and IL were both quoted as saying it meant we could re-sign other squad players who may have had to be let go otherwise.

Ah okay. I'm sure I read they didn't need it, he was signed before it was even voted on as well. Note sure how that works.

I took it to mean that the plan was to sign Tomkins irregardless, and that if the Marquee ruling didn't get passed, that other players would have contracts altered/be released in order to accommodate Tomkins' signing.
