| Why not in the rest of the country? Get other people intrigued. We may find that some people may tune into a game on Sky. I don't see the point in marketing something just in the area where it is already popular.

| This ad campaign needs to be country wide not just in the main RL regions. With the World cup later this year getting the game at the minds of the countries sports fans from the start is essential.

| Great stuff, maybe the theory is try it out on regional TV and expand it before RLWC?
Still, I believe the RFL have really started to move forward in the last year or so, starting with the common sense move of MM to Eastlands and the promotion of the RLWC so far has been excellent.

I know! How ridiculous? I mean, Nike, Asda and McDonalds are all popular in Britain but they still keep advertising here! It's madness! And Leeds Rhinos - they have billboards all over Leeds! What are they thinking?
Super League has an average weekly attendance in the region of 60,000. The combined population of Yorkshire and the North West is in the region of 12.2million. Let's concentrate on attracting people who are on our doorstep first and maybe, just maybe, these ads will deliver a tangible ROI to justify further investment.
Sky Sports will be advertising their own programming nationally.

Jeez, it's not about being closed minded it's about using your limited resources to the best of your ability.
Who the hell is going to travel up from Bristol to watch a game no matter how turned on they are. However you may raise the interest in an an entire family in Harrogate who may decide to give say Leeds a go, or re awaken an interest in someone from Salford. Far more likely to succeed both short and long term. Maximise you earnings were you are strong first and when you have use it to spread the word. Truth is RL is still not as strong as it should be in it's own back yard.
When there are 14 SL teams all in modern stadiums and all selling out then it's time to spread the game. This is the Aussie model - they waited till interest in the successful Sydney comp reached breaking point and then answer the demand and chuck as much money at it as you can. We are trying to cater for a demand that is yet to be created, cart before the horse.
Use chances like this to make the heartland of the game vibrant and exciting then the rest will follow - it's basic business/common sense nothing more.

As said above, its about getting people to attend games, not watch them on Sky, thats Sky's responsibility.

...is there something wrong with the southern doorstep?
The RFL/SKY wanted a London franchise/team in their new summer rugby League revolution but in 17 years have not lifted a finger to help them.....yet again, the Northern Sport that wants to seem national retreats into it's shell.....and in world cup year too.....shocking

There are 12 clubs based in those two areas. Only one in London.
I would hope a large part of the RFL's negotiation is based upon there being a good level of national advertising by whomever is broadcasting the World Cup.
Personally, i think with at this time, and with our limited budget this is probably a sensible way to go. IF there is to be money for nationally televising SL it should be spent next year to capitalize on the World Cup.

I think London could better spend 20k+ on marketing than a single TV ad and I would hope that London arent being left out.

| Some television advertising - geographically targeted and aimed at football fans - is an improvement on no advertising at all.
Yet because it's not national television advertising, in what is likely to be a pretty expensive time slot, the RFL have got it wrong again, apparently.
Some people need to seriously temper their ambitions for the game in the short term.

Which Australia is this? The one which expanded to take in the Warriors? The one which subsidises the strategic expansion club Melbourne Storm? The one which has taken games to expansion areas like Perth, Adelaide, Wellington, Waikato, which are literally thousands of miles from their home grounds? The one which took in teams from Adelaide, Perth, Auckland, Melbourne, Canberra? The one which deliberately targeted certain TV markets for new clubs? or the one which is talking about admitting a team from 2000miles away from Sydney in Perth or 1700miles away in Port Moresby?
interest in the NRL sydney isnt 'at breaking point' it is massively over-catered for, its why so many Sydney Clubs are in so much financial difficulty. That is why the NRL is needing to expand, and its why it almost certainly wont be in Sydney

As much as the RFL get stuff wrong, they are geniuses compared to the idiot in charge at London at the moment.....As much I would love to see the RFL/SKY help out, it would have to be after the current CEO has returned to cricket!

It's all very well singing the praises of the NRL, but don't forget that they didn't/don't have football deeply ingrained in their society and which in the UK probably accounts for over 70% of all sports fans in the country. (fast and loose with the % there but won't be far off)

| National or localised I still can't believe people are criticising this.
If the RFL has the resources i'm sure they would make it national, but they don't have so they can't.
