I think this is an area that needs improving. As far as I can see, there currently isn't an online shop that is functioning. There was for a while, but now the link has disappeared from the website and the link to the shop - www.rugby-league.com/england/england/shop - doesn't take you to one.
Compare this to:
Football: https://englandstore.thefa.com/
Cricket: store.ecb.co.uk/
Rugby union: www.englandrugbystore.com/stores/ers/en/
I'm not suggesting that RL should attempt to emulate the number of products available in the above three stores, but it would be nice to have at least a small range of merchandise available all the time. If nothing else than to have a presence online. Even if they only sold the shirt, car sticker, mug, that would be a start.

I don't think I've seen Hummel gear since the 1980s.

If you think that the lack of a shop is embarassing then it gets worse. I was just checking out the (once mighty) Orrell RUFC who are now in the boondocks of the RU league system. On their website they have a fully functioning shop seemingly organised by their supplier. What about something as simple as making products avaliable through club shops?

| The ecommerce for a lot of clubs is pretty poor to be brutally honest with you.
In today's online environment, it simply isn't good enough to not have a version of your online store that isn't fully accessible on a mobile device. It's something users expected five years ago, and we still have clubs that don't offer that.
It also isn't acceptable to force users to have a login for merchandise and another sperate login for ticketing - it makes it very hard to run a decent eCRM with that approach and it's just poor UX created by a problem that really shouldn't exist.
This isn't hard to do, but even clubs that are considered to be amongst the better ones in RL when it comes to sales and marketing can't get it right. It's pathetic.

| It is not just e-commerce. The BBC ran the same Rugby League story about Joel Monaghan, as the main RL story, for the best part of a week. We need to control the flow of information across a wide range of platforms. It is fine if you are a signed up RL fan but all those likes add up to advertising revenue and sponsorship so we need to go out to get them from casual supporters. If ever a former player at Thatto Heath rescues a cat the world now needs to know it.
