Purchased a new English Tracksuit top for the occasion, if I put on an Aussie accent I'm hoping to get a starting spot in the 17! Anyone know a decent bar in town or near the ground?
Nice write up Andy. I would point out that we (the Wigan couple) were a bit luckier than you suggested, in that we did have to join the scrum on the other side of the ground, but went straight to a steward (there were some outside the ground, could have done with some inside as you say) who was able to locate the tickets we booked online. Yours were probably there too!
From our vantage point your stand didn't look particularly full, but the other three definitely were. If nothing else it did make the RFL appear organised - something I should have pointed out to R Lewis when we spotted him in Place de l'Horloge in Avignon that afternoon.
Haven't heard myself whether the guy from Wakefield managed to make it home ok. He came back to our hotel for a beer (and a warm!) but left about 3.15am to get to the station when it opened! Prior to that, we'd had some good banter with the English speaking match officials in O'Neills.
As you say, very few problems with transport - only a 20 min delay on outbound train (we weren't rushing) and we were able to find a taxi on Sunday morning (driven by Bernard Manning) without a problem other than the huge crack in his windscreen!
Glad we never spent any longer in Nimes. Avignon was lovely however - a tour around the Palais des Papes on the Saturday morning was followed by lunch and some "degustation" at Le Vin Devant Soi.
I believe the Wakefield fan did indeed make it back - Pretty sure it's him that has posted on a 'rival' forum.
Yeah our stand wasn't that full, particularly at the front, however the upper and lower sections were seperate, and I couldn't see a way of getting from one part to the other without risking serious injury!
