Think you have underestimated Schofield, here. Edwards early in his career was a very good support player and later became a very good half back in a dominating team.
Schoefield was an excellent creative player during all his career more skilful than Edwards.
Schofield was even better at international level something Edwards wasn't.
I seem to remember Schoefield was good enough to become an international player around 18-19 years of age, Edwards was not on the radar until he was 25-26 years, which I should imagine was because Schofield was first choice No 6.
Schoefield was successful playing over in the NRL, Edwards wasn't. Edwards also went over to the "dark side", but that might be the RFL's fault.
