Quote ="nick hkr"Your distance certainly puts you at a disadvantage on this one JB. Usually your pretty spot on with most things HKR but Michael Smith was a star performer in most games he played for our club. Numerous man of the match awards among plenty of times James Webster took them when probably not playing better than Smithy. His offloading skill was something no other National League club then had while his unstoppable runs coupled with Makali's barnstorming ones really put us on the front foot, none more so than the NL Grand Final in 2006.
I am with you on the larger frame, it was a long time ago that this fitness regime worked however for him in the lower league it did. I would also say players like Feka and Solomona are not too far off being the same size as Smith. Oh and lets not forget Michael was on the reserve list to play for New Zealand whilst playing for Rovers.'"
In a part time division
Michael Smith had all the tools to become a David Solomona but with an ability to break a tackle like Feka, both of which have proved themselves in the top division.
His main problem was an inability to avoid nightclubs and pizza shops.
