| He'd bring leadership and genuine class to our pack. No spring chicken but we did pretty well with the last 30+ back rower we signed. Hindmarsh is of a similar pedigree. Probably no more than a made up rumour though, bit we can hope.

| OP on that forum seems to be getting pee taken out him over the rumour. Plus unless we've got sammut off quota we don't have quota space

| I thought Sammut was confirmed off quota?? anyway we can hope.. It makes sense though if you look at it.. the kind of forward we need right now plus it is the kind of thing the club believe the fans would want, spending some money on a big name. lets hope if it is true and he comes it doest turn out to be a (dare i say it) Orford saga!!

| One thing is, much as we've bemoaned the loss of Menzies and Morrison, I don't recall the Bulls packs they played in showing much evidence of being bolstered by their experience and leadership. Maybe Morro's first year, but since then has been the malaise, with a brief respite at the back end of 09 and start of 2010. While neither was here to help in 2011, were they really such a boost *as leaders* before then. Genuine question, you'd expect them to be, but did it happen, in Beaver's case particularly?

| Well - Sammutt said he had been told he was off quota by the RFL. Unfortunately neither the club or the RFL have confirmed this yet.

I'd steer well clear.

| As much as I wish this is true, I seriously doubt this rumour has any legs, and couldn't see for the life in me that he would actually come over to super league, never mind the bulls... Ah well, here's for optimism!

| Really can't see us giving a 30 yr old a 295k a year deal and doubt we have that much cap space anyway. Would cause unrest in squad if one player was on that much more than others. Can't see this being anything other than made up tbh.

| just as I suspected. And the reported 1.4 million would mean he was on around £290,000 a season, I am sure the club would be cautious over spending such a huge chunk of cap on one player, given the you know who saga. And it is very doubtful we have anywhere near that sort of cap space! Its a shame we can't realisticly be linked with this calibre of player.

| Maybe his agent found an Unconnected Third Party that's happy to pay him maybe £200k p.a. for his image rights, and therefore all he needs is another £90k from the rugby to balance his books to be able to come over here - which we could probably afford? The kind of guy or firm that rumour has it seem to abound in the vicinity of some other clubs?

Warrington do not fix the cap
... meanwhile the bulls and crusaders look set to make up the play offs in 7th and 8th respectively

He's apparently of Scottish descent and his brother Ian made himself available for Scotland when he played for the Catalans a few years back according to wikipedia. If true it suggests quota shouldn't be a problem, though it still leaves the fed trained bit.

No one has an opinion one way or the other on this then? Surprised.

| Yeah I do, there was little leadership from either of them. Morrison was ok, but he wasnt the player some on here seemed to think he was and really didnt make that big of a difference to our performances.

| If we're talking about leadership then Morro consistently led the defensive line when he played and always drove it in hard. When asked he played at 6 when not really being a half and always showed a captain's attitude in victory or defeat. We were a better side when he played and I'd pick him above every single second rower we have. The number of times he made it onto the field made his re-signing a judgement call.
Menzies was a wide running second rower so a different type of player. In the Bulls side he played in he was our best attacking option but also looked a major luxury standing out in the channel when the forwards were getting trampled over.
Frankly I'd say they did what they could in a team with rapidly detriorating half backs and a coach who with every passing season managed to contruct a squad with an even poorer front row to play behind despite inheriting Sam Burgess.

| Beaver was also capable of some big hits, not just the flair second rower.

Overseas quota isn't problem as we have 2 free spots. We don't have any non fed trained spots and can't get any unless sammut gets dispensation. Should have made it clear I was referring to non fed trained quota when I mentioned getting sammut off quota. Dont think this rumour has any legs though so its pretty academic anyway.

I disagree,Morrison was all action. He was (still is) a great leader with good hands and a good turn of pace, he also still regulary leads the tackle count.
The problem with Morrison is because of his style of play he tends to pick up a lot of injuries and misses a lot of games, this coupled with him being quota and the fact that he was probably not on peanuts is the reason he was released IMO.
