its a problem from the supporters point of view, wanting the cheapest possible season ticket. Not sure its a problem from clubs point of view. say we fall short of 10k and get 8k. club then sets ticket price at whatever the figure was for 8k (75 ish I think). they then announce pryce signing after deadline and get an extra few thousand season ticket sales at £75 thus getting more income than they would have done if the 10k was reached.

If Ben Black was that good a super league team would have snapped him up. Barrett wouldn't be amazing. He's not an organiser for a start, much more a running stand off. Lockyer is at least 3 years younger than Menzies, not that i am doubting his talent.

lockyer would be 34 just after the start of the season..............menzies came to us at 35....like you said he would come over here when he is menzies age......................a bit of money for 2 years would be absolutley fantastic

I don't know whether Menzies was offered a contract by Manly or not but he was handsomely paid by Bulls. Don't get me wrong he was a true champion player for us and can only be thought of as a legend. However, I think the time was right to part company with him because the cash can be / has been spread over more than one player as a result. Lockyer would demand a similarly high contract as his name would ensure a large number of clubs would be after him if it became clear that Brisbane would be prepared to release him. If Orford does go with the cash already left in the salary cap and his salary (no idea what that may be but I bet it's less than the amounts reported in the press- he would still probably be the highest player at the club as Scrum Halves usually are) I'd like us to sign a 6 and a 7. Two specialists in those positions is better than one superstar and the rest of the team playing out of position to accomodate a 6 who is naturally a full back or centre.

The best outcome of course would be for Orford to stay and us to sign a specialist 6 to partner him but that is sadly looking increasingly unlikely.

If we were going to take a punt on any Championship player I would only have Kyle Briggs of Featherstone who had a blinder on Thursday in the 46-16 defeat of Halifax at Post Office Road.

He looks a super prospect although he won't come cheap.

I didn't say it was wrong to get rid of Menzies... Just the comparison that lockyer is younger than menzies and would almost certainly be demanding a much higher wage, with a lot more clubs interested. Not realistic at all.

But he would be the next best player after Robbinson who I can't for one minute see coming to us.

Surely releasing Menzies was to free quota spot rather than squad depth, maybe both.

Anyway, i never suggested even signing Lockyer. However only a foolish team would turn down the opportunity to sign arguably the best stand off in the world.

I really don't believe we can attract any of the names touted on this thread. The same would go for any super league team. My point was more to rl crazy that you just can't expect to sign any NRL "name" just because we got Orford ( a player who it seems doesn't want to be here anymore).
