I think from what Peter Hood said at the Fans Forum he has until January to prove he is available for full time training again! He does have a two year contract and if the Bulls are spending up to the SC next season, they need to pay him up under this years financial year if that were the case! Mick Potter might want more props to rotate, but we don't know his thinking as yet, but hopefully it will combine the better ways of Bulls and Stains play

my understanding of that are of salary cap rules is shaky at best but I believe as long as we reach a settlement before competetive games begin again ( which I assume excludes friendlies) then the settlement doesnt count on cap. so we should have uptil early feb to sort it out. problem would be if we brought someone in on assumption that scully wouldnt be able to train and thus use that portion of salary cap and he then became available. only solution to that problem I'd guess would be a loan deal to reduce our cap spend.

Not a thrilling signing but will probably add something to the squad.

Which is the correct approach IMO.

There's no point in getting dragged in to a bidding war and paying over the odds.

Potters approach and player targets thus far have been spot on for mine.

If it's true and also that Sculthorpe is leaving then it's a sensible signing IMO. As long as we've got Koppy and Crossley signed up then we've got a bit more depth in our front row and won't have to rely as heavily on Lynch and Scruton as we'll be able to rotate them more than has been done in the past. The idea of an 80 minute prop is fine in principle but in practice it doesn't seem workable. Look at Fielden for eg.

Now all we really need to be linked with is a new half back partner for Orford. (as well as a firm joint commitment from Orford and the club that he is remaining a Bradford player).

We needed another prop to avoid overworking the main two like has happened this year. Dowes will do a job.

A solid and dependable Prop who doesn't seem to pick up many injuries. He wouldn't have been my first choice of the Props available but I'm sure we'll get value for money out of him. I still worry we lack a 'fearsome' Prop to lead us forward who strikes a bit of fear into the opposition.

So I'll just have to trust Potter's judgement on this one if it turns out to be true.

In the main I would agree, bit unsure about Ainscough butI will trust Potters judgement until I see reason not to.

Nick Scruton can do that now. Start Dowes and Lynch with Scruton to come of the bench as an impact prop.

He's a lot fitter than Palleasina for a start.

Exactly Mat, Im a bit unsure about signing Ainscough coz I think he's pretty crap.

crap is harsh michael. he's certainly not the finished article. he finishes well and has a bit of pace. poor under high ball and generally a bit suspect in defense. most of more sensible wigan fans arent too happy about losing him, when you discount the ones who automatically slag off any player leaving their club as poor.

that said if potter thinks theres enough there to work with I'm quite happy to give him a go.

Dowes is a good pro and makes yards IMO

He is a great pro, with good defence as well. He has been a top pro for us over the 7/8 years missing very few games through injury (With our record for injuries maybe we should be keeping him). His work rate and attitude is spot on will be sad to see him go.

Hi everyone, been years since I have posted on the site, A bulls fan since 1965, now living in Hull since 1992, still get to the games when I can,Just like you all to know that Ewan Dowes has indeed signed for the Bulls and that Scott Wheeldon would sign tomorrow for us but his agent (the same one as Ewan Dowes)has been talking to the Bulls but Scott has also Wakefield in contention but would prefer the Bulls. Salary is not an option but he has been held out to dry by HKR, if Willy Mason signs he is out but if not then he could get a new contract, his dad who I know, would like him to move on.

I wouldn't describe Nick Scruton as 'fearsome' even though he does put in the occasional big hit. I just feel our forwards are a bit tame, we could probably do with some aggression in there!

Scruton is probably the closest we have got to an 'enforcer'.

Yup I think Ewan Dowes will be a good solid signing for us and an indication of where Potter wants to be in the start of his team re-building.

Am still hoping for an enforcer up front, a quality 6 and a quality centre and confirmation Ainscough has signed

Oh yes, and the return of Orford and one of these mentioned above needs to be a quality o/s to replace The Beaver!!

Nick Scruton is a good player, but as ferarsome, an enforcer and dominant, no way.
He likes to think he is, and a number of Bulls fans like to think he is, but he isn't really.
