Is't that a problem with the whole team Menzies has missed more tackles so far this year than the whole of last year.

| This bit from Morro's blog struck me as significant:
Quote ="Glen Morrison"Dave Halley was Man of the Match on SKY and he had a blinder. He is doing just what we want our full back to do, which is catch that ball on the full and make as many yards as possible and he did that and a whole lot more. He looks to have grabbed the position with two hands and made it his own and that's what we need. He really deserved the Man of the Match.'"
Trying to move on from the Platt/Halley extended debates of recent weeks/months/years/millennia, reading that gives me the impression that the issue is decided. He's certainly making it clear what his own opinion is - and the implied criticism of Platt is surely hard to miss? I'm assuming that whatever assistance he may get in writing it its still his own underlying views - and its unlikely that those views would be expressed on the club official site if his views were significantly at variance with those of others at the club?
I guess we'll be pretty clear if Halley runs out at FB again tonight.
Whilst on the subject of the blog, this bit was interesting too:
Quote ="Glenn Morrison"There were a lot of Bulls supporters there and they made themselves heard again. There was a lot behind the sticks and that's what we need. We have had some big support in the past but they have been a bit quiet. We have seen at other grounds supporters shouting, ‘forward', ‘offside', ‘penalty', even when they are not and we got that on Friday and against Wakefield and that puts pressure on the Ref to make the fifty - fifty calls. We need that and it was noticeable in both games.'"
Some people pontificate that the crowd's calls have no bearing on the ref's decision-making or mindset. My view has always been that refs are only human (apart from Klein, obviously) and so crowd pressure MUST have some effect. Seems that's Morro's view too.

Two points that stood out to me too Adey.
The questions now are:
1. Are we lookiong at an extended contract for Halley? If not, why not?
2. Where does this leave Platt? Has Macca got any thoughts in mind for where to play him? I still feel he's got plenty to offer, I'm just not sure where.
3. Was the crowd noise really that different in the last two games?
From my recollection that's the first time I've heard a player publically state it can sway an official. Obviously "off the record" we all thought it might have a bearing

| I don't think there's a doubt it has a bearing.
Anyone who went to the Hull KR away game last year will have seen it. Their crowd never stopped all game trying to influence the referee (the worst I've ever heard it), and Silverwood pretty much let them referee the game.
I actually questioned if I'd bother going back to that ground because of how annoying it was to hear them shouting for a decision at every single PTB, no matter who had the ball.

1. We should be, i'd heard that one of the reasons Halley picked his shorter current deal himself was so he could earn a longer deal on better terms than we originally offered. The plan worked I reckon, now we need to pay up, he's shown more than enough potential for me.
2. Back up FB/bench. Only other thought I have (and I said this last year when he imploded a couple of times) is that he has enough of the attributes to be more than useful on the wing surely? Tadulala wont keep going for too many years, and there is enough time left on Platts contract to turn him into a decent winger is there not?
3. There was a fair bit at both but nothing we've not heard or dealt with before many times (probably more in either of the previous two than there will be tonight with two nervous sets of fans mind.) I think it does influence the officals, even if subconciously, but not often to a game breaking level IMHO.

He does seem to have the attributes to make a good 3/4 (either centre or wing for mine). Good pace, decent step, pretty solid in defence (I think he'd be better suited to defending in the line)

Maybe, I hope another team thinks this and asks for him to be released. I think the cap could be spent a lot better than Platt.

| David Solomona should have started at 6 this evening with Sykes and Menzies at centre. The team would have been better balanced and more creative. The only time we looked dangerous was when Solomona had the ball in his hands.
