| Quote ="post"Bradford haven't the money to bring in ready made superstars and over the last few years your recruitment has been pi55 poor in bring in average aussies who have a 3 year maximum shelf life.
You need to do what you did in the 90's and bring in good young players like you did with Paul, Hape, Vainikolo, Fielden, Peacock, Pryce etc.
Getting rid of Burgess has given away a major bargaining chip for signing other players so it's back to square one. Kearney is a decent player but L'Estrange, Hall and Walker are just average in my books and if Bradford want to be a force in years to come not just also rans you need to bring more youngsters through whether they be from other clubs or countries.'"
Ho Hum.
Hape and Les were signed in the 2000's.
Peacock, Pryce and Fielden were products of the Bulls Academy.
Robbie was signed at 18, before Superleague, and so is effectively a Bulls product.
The club did not get rid of Burgess, and it was no bargaining chip beyond this year since he was OOC to go the the NRL end next season.
The club has assured it it has been spending to the salary cap in recent years and I believe them. Whether they are able to right now is unclear, and is anyway irrelevant to the point you are seeking to make. If other clubs were engaging in practices which allowed them to get more out of the supposed salary cap, practices which are now under serious scrutiny by HMRC and the RFL, thats up to them. I have been assured Bulls are not.
Menzies and Morrison are far from average, and served/serve a valuable purpose in bringing experience and mentoring - which you need for the young players you are referring to.
Last time I looked, we had not signed anyone called Walker.
The club COULD afford so called ready-made superstars - or at least major stars - we had one called Solomona. As it transpired, most supporters would have settled for an "average Aussie" and very definitely settled for Menzies, and you don't get much more Superstar than that.
Ok, now I've debunked pretty well everything you said, shall we get on to the real issue? Which is that the Bulls are putting a lot of effort into junior development, but there are still short to medium term gaps to be filled. And given packages some British rising stars are commanding, and the frequent need to pay transfer fees which, without a rich sugar daddy we have limited scope to do, the logical course remains to look to the antipodes to plug some of the gaps. Sort of like every other club is doing, including e.g. Leeds who last time I looked had more from overseas than we do despite supposedly championing youth development. And thats before we even start looking at clubs like Wigan.
Now, where were we...?

| Dont know if this has already been mentioned, but in the league express today it says we are going to use the money from Sam to bring in some new players. Could be some promising news.
Another point looking at Bailey's celebrations by throwing his boots into the crowd and beating his badge on Sat night, it seemed pretty obvious it was his last game for leeds I just hope that he isnt coming to us.

Who are we going to sign though
Another prop ? That would surely shove Kopzcak out, whos had a good season imo.
Or a SR. Whitehead and Donno should get more games plus we have hall. All we need in the pack is a big prop imo, then leave it alone and concentrate on our back-line.

Yes but Bailey rarely does, he doesnt make many meters, doesnt break many tackles. I really do not rate him and he also seems like a complete idiot who loves to give it out but doesnt seem like he can take it.

| I'd take Bailey. He wins a lot of penalties, gets a quick play the ball, has pretty good defence, rarely makes daft errors and winds up opposition fans no end! He also has a bit of a mean streak which we could do with.
He must be doing something well to keep getting in a good Leeds side.
I doubt he'll leave Leeds though.

He's also contracted to Leeds for next season. I expect it would take a huge change in the relationship between the clubs before we could see a contracted player moving from Leeds to Bradford.

We need a prop to replace Burgess but I suspect Hall is being earmarked for that position, the T&A report on his signing mentioned him being played at prop.
Looking at who we have:
Props: Lynch, Scruton, Hall, Kopczak, Crossley
Second Row: Menzies, Worrincy, Whitehead, Olbison
Loose: Langley, Donaldson.
IMO we're lacking some class and depth in the second row especially if Menzies gets injured. At prop we're also looking a bit vulnerable and we really need Koppy and Crossley to come on for us.
Same applies to the backs where we're all aware that at present we have no back up whatsoever.
I think we need [iat least[/i three signings if we're going to improve on last year's league position. As things stand we're looking at 11th in the table in 2010 at best. Here's looking forward to some better news soon.

Paul Deacon gave away more penalties last year than Bailey.

| I wouldnt have Ryan Bailey anywhere near our team if he was the No1 prop in the world. Hope we sign a impact prop though, quite happy with Menzies, Hall, Whitehead and Worrincy for 2nd row with Donaldson and Langley backup if needed.

| Hall is a back rower who can play prop at a push, we shouldn't be looking at him as being our replacement for sam. He would add that bit extra in the SR and I think he would be a good replacement for Morrison. Atm though it would be easier to find a SR than a prop.
Lynch
Godwin
Scruton
Hall
Menzies
Langley
Bailey
Kopzcak
Worrincy/Donno/Whitehead
L'Estrange
That looks alright, not anywhere near the best thopugh, I think Bailey could add that bit of nastiness and mean streak and also give a bit of impact off the bench, he'd need to do what he did on saturday consistently though.

| I have it on good authority that we aren't signing any more back rowers, so I wouldn't hold out hope for that.
Also don't forget that Nero can play back row if needed. Hopefully we're looking at giving plenty of game time to Whitehead, Donaldson & Olbison instead of treating Worrincy as a first choice.
I'd think a prop is a far more important signing than a back rower (although I get the feeling we may not be getting one of those either).

Forgot about Olbison aswell.
I'd much rather see Hall used as a back rower and get another prop.

| These days you need 4 Props. I would rather see Glenn Hall play in the 2nd row. A good quality prop to go with Lynch, Scruton and Kopzcak and we should have a decent pack.

Bit more than splitting hairs I's suggest, given how you worded the post though?
But OK, if your motives were genuine - and that's far from clear from your wording IMO - my own wording and emphasis would have been quite different. But we are getting so many coming on here bringing a bad case of schadenfreude, that its becomes increasingly difficult to tell the wheat from the chaff.

I agree with that, but there is a shortage of quality props going about, if there's no one better, i'd settle with Bailey on a 1 or 2 year deal.
