Which will of course then lead to a further reduction in attendances, which lead to the club having to cut back even more on playing squad and coaches etc.

I wonder if the club will ensure Potter has all of the cap to work with? If the crowds do not come back though.. who foots the bill? I can see Potter working with another young side next year.

I highly doubt it I expect that the club will be working with a similar budget as this season, any improvement in the squad is likely to come from the fact that all the youngsters will be entering next season with a years more experience than they entered this season. My hope for next season is that Whitehead and Donaldson can step up another gear and become genuine top class back row forwards and that the likes of Addy, Olbison, Wardle, Southernwood etc can push on and reach a similar stage in their development that Whitehead has done this year.

| I couldn't be bothered going today. Salford reds, poor atmosphere and £18 to get in with a poor weather forecast.
Glad I made the right choice!!

| Well as everyone has said it was the same old thing, but hardly surprising, and the last ten minutes did give me a lift. The crowd looked little different than it has many times this year, although I didn't imagine for an instant anyone (other than 10-20) might have returned due to Macca going. Most I presume will see this season as written off and make a calculated decision as to whether or not to make the effort next year with Potter coming in.
I'm interested in FA's comments about a new halfback, does that mean we should expect Kearney or Sykes to be departing? If the players performance is due to factionalism, as was partially the case last year, then I'm even more annoyed with Macca, it's those sort of things that a coach can and should deal with. I have also heard bits and pieces about certain players out partying all the time, but had hoped that was largely rumour.
The lack of imagination in attack has been a feature of Macca's entire reign, so I don't think St Hilaire will be able to change things dramatically, and certainly not after a week, if at all. Orford remedied that to a certain extent, playing more off the cuff, but as Cullen (yes really!) pointed out early in the season even with Orford our attacking play was one dimensional, poorly and slowly executed. Some of this will change with a different coach with a better understanding of the opposition and a better offensive strategy (Steve Mac, never gave me the impression he had the faintest idea here, preferring to rely on technology rather than nouse). Some of this changes as confidence increases, so instead of forced balls played in haste coming to the receiver at head height and often slightly behind them (common today), you get crisp well weighted balls just in front of the runner. This makes a massive difference in making or failing to make a set pattern move and in the tight games this can be the difference between winning and losing. I expect this will also change with someone new in charge and is already in evidence when they start to get a roll on, last 15mins today for example.
There are a good crop of youngsters coming through and a weary hard core of support, but the club's management needs to start looking upwards and outwards, rather than inwards and downwards. I think Potter's appointment is a good signal of intent, but this really needs to be the start of something, and we need a determined and innovative marketing approach to next season based around a single idea, selling point or slogan, the marketing I have seen this season has been amateurish and scatter gun and limited to those who already know what's on offer. Eventually and sooner might be better we will probably need to bite the bullet and move to VP.
I am not too depressed at the moment, even though I can't see where a win will come from! The club still has huge potential but it needs to step up its game rather than going in to its shell and trying to hold on to things past, we reinvented ourselves once and now is the time to do that again. I was pleased the players seemed to have been given the three line whip to show their appreciation to the supporters - the hard core that showed up today need and deserve that.

I took that as a veiled reference to southernwood personally, which would tie in with comments re: his attitude from wakey supporters and his absence from 1st team last couple of weeks.
on a different note does anyone know what smith saw wrong in nero try to disallow it? Looked pretty clear that finigan palmed the ball backwards and nero touched it down from pop. side only for smith to signal a knock on

It looked 50/50 that, could have gone either way, but Smith thought it was knocked forwards. For the most part i like smith as he lets the game flow, but today that flow was looking fairly ragged at times, lots of offsides and lying on ignored.

I wouldnt mind that so much if he was consistent. Salford were offside pretty much every ptb and only got pinged for it once iirc, every time we were offside we were penalised without fail. Lying on was pretty ridiculous too but to be fair he allowed both sides the to do it.

| It was another game where Bradford had quite a few chances to score against Salford and didn't take them I really can't see where the next win is going to come from.

| Rudderless, as much L'estrange and Kearney tried they aint or ever will be the playmakers, Were missing Orford big time, hopefully we will see him again next season cos i believe Potter has a decent foundation to work from!
Got to say though that was embarasing the first 2 tries, large parts of the second half where just cringeworthy (im sure i saw some tumbleweed blowing across the pitch on 68 mins) it must have woke them up becouse for the last 10 mins we played like table toppers!

| Only been to one game this season due to work, but catch up with all the reports every week. Hopefully the lads can pull together and make something out of the last few games of the season end on a high and clean out closets and prepare for next season. We've all known for sometime now that our glory days are over (for the time being) i just hope we can find some positives from this season. i'm really soul-searching here to find what we can take away but at this moment in time i cant see anything.
from a bull-supporter, in khaki on guard. in the foulest of moods due to the worst season he has seen in years!

| How can it get better next year?
I'm not sure things will improve by just appointting Potter as the coach.
What areas need improving?
Lack of good English players off contract at the moment, do you have any quota spots to bring in any quality NRL players?

Consistent individual errors from the players he recruited you mean?
And I thought the word on here is that he was not sacked (even though he most probably was) so a bit of an error on your part that I guess you will be corrected on later in the thread (ain't read it all yet)

| i went to match as my partner is a season ticket holder.was a poor game with 2 poor teams are tackles at times were worse then school boys and the 1st brough try why on earth no one hammered him in goal i will never know as would have been a drop out.
thought ian smith was crap as normal as the play the ball was a joke too much slowing the play down and lost count how many forward pass salford got away with.
think personaly we looked lost for ideas addy tried hard but defo not a scrum half why we arent playing southernwood.
think theres at least 6 players who have to go from bulls who just arent good enough and im not impressed with hall as seems to be blowing all the time defo not fit

It's pretty close yeah. It was a little earlier in the week than Thursday and dad was 51, but it's certainly close enough. Was told about it earlier in the week but didn't want to publicise as it wasn't my place to do so. I'm sure all fans would feel for him and the family right now, and perfectly understandable that he was allowed some time off to deal with it.

| Back to the game and not sure if anyone has noticed (and apologies if they have already mentioned it), but although we're 10th in the table, Crusaders actually have a game in hand on us (which I think they're playing the weekend of the Challenge Cup Semis), which if they win, they will be above us. So we're essentially 11th. Woeful isn't it?
