| The key here for me is whether he does have that get out clause. If there is no clause and he is contracted to 2011 then I would agree that 200k is not enough compensation unless he desperately wants out. But if he does have the clause and it stipulates he can simply tear up the contract in 2010 and we receive nothing then we should consider offers now.

If I remember correctly, the first talk of an opt out clause at the end of 2010 was on here, which was speculation. It's likely as not that this is where the rumour of an opt out clause has come from and it's been repeated by lazy journos.
We should be taking Hood's position with a pinch of salt obviously, as this will be part of any negotiations. He's hardly going to say, 'well we'd be happy to get £200k' and then set himself up to get knocked down even further. I would imagine £500k is his opening position, and given that Crowe's involved and in the UK, it seems a reasonable starting point.

Not sure if the specific 2010 supposed-break point arose on here - first time I saw this specific was in the press. The wording gave me the impression that it came from the discussion with Caisley, although that was never stated or directly implied. If there IS no such clause (and we do not know definitively either one way or the other) then it could possibly suit some to see the impression given that there IS such a clause? Or, then again, its just the media feeding frenzy.
And anyway, I am sure that someone who (unless anything has changed since January, which is possible) remains a 26% shareholder and is also representing players, will be especially careful to avoid potential conflicts of interest, particularly in dealings with the media?
As for your second paragraph -yes, for sure.

| Given the thinly veiled attacks made on his stewardship of the club by the current board and coaching staff you'd suspect that his relationship with the club wasn't the best.
It's certainly a complicated situation.

I suggest you revisit the wording of your second paragraph, because you may be heading towards libel on Caisley IMO. Maybe just make it more clear its opinion?
But, back to your first point, and yes I am concerned. But because he holds a quarter of the shares. Other than that, he is a free agent (d'oh!) and can do what he wants provided he does not breach terms of his previous employment with the club or in any settlement agreement he entered into on resigning. If this means looking after his or his principals' interests, there is not a lot we can do about it, I guess.
But no, it worries me and I agree entirely with Bullseye there.

Complicated for us as a club, but I suspect its not very complicated for Mr Caisley. He'll just get the best deal he can for Sam, whenever/wherever that is, Bradford's needs will come after.

English forward Sam Burgess, has had a $1 million price tag put on his head by Super League club Bradford.
Burgess, in the sights of a host of NRL clubs including Manly, Wests Tigers, South Sydney and Parramatta, has two more years remaining on his existing contract with the Bulls.
However, there has been speculation he could be ready to switch to the NRL as early as next year, with Rabbitohs co-owner Russell Crowe taking it upon himself to woo a player once voted the best teenage rugby league talent in the world.
Bradford chairman Peter Hood has, however, moved to douse NRL interest by warning it would take a significant financial inducement for the club to release him before the end of 2011.
Asked whether he would allow Burgess to leave for $500,000, Hood replied: "We would definitely not consider (releasing him) for that."
However, Hood acknowledged Bradford would consider selling Burgess for $1 million.
"One would have to take those sort of numbers seriously," Hood said.
"It's that old adage -- everything is for sale at a price."

| I'm a Rabbitohs fan.
I can't see any NRL club paying 1 million AUS dollars or more just to release him from his contract.
We would be better off waiting 1 season and not pay a cent in transfer.

Well the point of a lot of the discussion is whether or not it IS one season or in fact two seasons. Unfortunately the board don't seem particularly interested or inclined to clear that up.
Although the quote from our Chairman in the Auz news would suggest it IS two years:
'Bradford chairman Peter Hood has, however, moved to douse NRL interest by warning it would take a significant financial inducement for the club to release him before the end of 2011.'

Give over, I've never known so many people concerned about libel...
It's a weapon of fear used by the wealthy, but it's not as easy to use as some on here seem to think. It has to be purposefully sustained and malicious not some vague intimation.

Wonder if you would be as relaxed if you ran this site, and were personally liable for anything you get hit with? And personally, I would suggest a degree of prudence is in order when saying things about a lawyer well-known for his robust approach to situations?
But its not my neck.

Probably, as libel is normally between individuals. As it is I've run other sites that would arguably run a higher risk than this one including one that involved a satirical spoof of a law firm that used libel as an aggressive tool to silence critics of its major corporate clients.
As I've said before I respect the way this is moderated and understand the need for caution, I just don't think it helps to spread the idea that we must all be tongue-tied or uncritical in case some nasty lawyer or corporate actor comes to get us.

Given that I agree totally with that (just look at what Alan Bloody Sugar is doing right now to try and gag political journalists by threatening libel proceedings) we may be at cross-purposes?
Nowhere did I suggest the comments should not be made. All I suggested was that the views should be expressed clearly as opinion and not giving the appearance of being fact. Usually all that needs is one or two words finessed. In my experience (and I've had some too) that is all that's usually needed to head off any risks.

| Says here (and it's the first report that I've seen this week with qoutes from Peter hood) that the Bulls have put an AUD 1 000 000 (approx GBP 460000) price tag on Burgesses head.

For that money or player swap of equivalent value they've got to let him go.

Don't worry, it's not news until BSC has posted a link to it, anything prior to that is just speculation.

| Hood's throwing a "come and get him" figure, one that is far greater than Sam's agent, Caisley put out. £200,000 if I recall.
So Sam is going. What price and when is now horse trading
