At no point had I mentioned anything about their playing experience till you did. I merely asked how two players of similar age are being judged in completely different areas.
briggs apparently now is one for the future yet Herbert is expected to step up to the mark instantly and is one for now.
Of course I could argue that Briggs is familiar with the conditions in the area, has spent his career in UK RL (regardless of the level), has had no upheavel whatsoever in moving clubs but that makes no difference whatsoever to some.
Still, he is away now. Mr Potter seems to agree but I accept you know more than he does.

The point he was making, as you well know, is that some people seem to almost arbitrarily decide which players they don't like at the beginning of the season when they sign, occasionally based on little more than seeing a few minutes of highlights, and will then take all underperformance as proof, all overperformance as blips. The question you need to answer if you want to enter into discussion rather than just put downs, is on what basis you made your decision early doors?
Away from that, for what it's worth I'd rather we were loaning a number of players out and were in a position to bring back those that make it but without commitment to those that don't. Crookes, based on the last few weeks is a good example of a player that some would have offloaded last year but that seems to have come back from his loan spells a good deal better.
Briggs may make it, he may not. He's certainly not mince and saying he is really isn't helping anything or anyone.

But surely their relative levels of experience are a reason why they are being looked at differently?
One has NRL experience and is taking up a quota spot and the other has been part time in the Championship. Its hardly surprising that one gets cut more slack than the other.
10 months age difference, so thats a season then. I'd say that'd make a difference aswell.

Ever heard of statistical significance, it is my major grievance with the tripe you post. Briggs may turn out to be mince but based on your exposure to his game I don't believe you have a statistically significant amount of data to base this decision.
My view is that he has played some good and some bad rugby and the good was played after you had called him mince. I also believe it was harsh for him to be dropped. Having said that, now he has been dropped, loaning out is a good play.I base this judgement on having watched him more than a couple of times on tv. Now I'm not saying a tv fan of the bulls is not allowed an opinion, far from it maybe they should temper the criticism a bit when we're not on tv every week anymore (and have saved sone of our worst rugby for tv x- Wigan and saints aside)
I find it's the armchair gang that go after Kopczak too which I find baffling

Who would have thought it though eh? The player I identified as being "worse than mince" is the first one on his bike after just half a season.
How odd.......'"
1. Since when does going out on loan make a player bad?
2. It's a loan. Why are you saying he's on his bike as though he won't return?
3. Why do you seem delighted that if are being proved right? Surely as a Bulls fan, it would be in your best interests to see him become a success.
4. If it is so easy for you to identify who has talent or not, and who will make it, why haven't you sought out a job as a scout for a SL club?

| Christ so many followers on here now. It is becoming my own little twitter account on here now. Clearly the newly formed Kyle Briggs Appreciation Society is growing.
OK, not answering one by one but I will try to summarise.
* Briggs being sent on loan pretty much proves what a few on here have thought. He is not good enough for us. Perhaps the experience will help but the rumours that we are in the market for a new halfback suggest that his days are limited.
* We have looked considerably better as a side (from what I have seen as well as match reports and views) when BJ has returned. A player considered not good enough a couple of seasons ago. Pretty much a journeyman player is miles ahead of him.
* Out of his depth. It was clear to see after the first game v Leeds that he was out of his depth. He had a half decent first thirty minutes then was awful for the remaining fifty minutes of the game. All this talk of his "injury" seemed convenient timing.
* "Delight" in him failing. Not that at all. I take delight in seeing how many people get utterly p!$$ed off that I am pretty much spot on once again. Whatever I say on here there are the usual suspects (and a few new hangers on) desperate to slate everything I write. If I was wrong then they would waste no time in telling me, so as I am right I feel it only fair that I take me wee slice of pie. It annoys people no doubt but hey, it keeps the board vibrant. (Remember the abuse I took for my anti-Mac campaign? Amazing how many of the anti Eddie group have quietly pointed out this season that he was a complete failure. Shame they are frightened to agree at the time as they may be seen to be siding with the wrong person. Still, better a turncoat with their own mind than a sheep who blindly follows)
* Herbert may well have that extra experience, but, as is conveniently ignored, he has had to uproot everything and move to the other side of the world. It may not take away his NRL experience but it should be considered by some on here as a POSSIBLE reason for him not being as good as he may have been. (TBH, I think he is coming on OK now)
* RL scouting? Now there is a thought. Given some of the signings we have made in recent times it does make you wonder if there ARE any scouts at our club and, if so, what they are doing to justify their wages. Maybe af is our chief scout?
* As for what I say "not helping?" This is something that has always puzzled me. In the past I was told that what I wrote would make no difference because nobody is gonna bother reading it, or if they did, they would pay any attention to what I wrote.
Now it seems that they do. What has changed? Once again I will point out that players are happy to take all the praise under the sum when they are winning but we are not supposed to slate them if they are failing? How does that work then? Are they really such sensitive little souls? If so, perhaps professional RL is maybe not for them.
There are a right few hypocrites within the newly formed KBAS who are ignoring the other side of the argument.
* Statistical data??? WTF? Stats can tart up anything you like. Getting desperate here. This is a guy that seems to excell in kicking out on the full when the ball is in play yet being unable to make touch from a penalty!
However, his one month at Quins may turn him into an English Benji Marshall, who can tell. TBH, I doubt I will be looking for any brown sauce to go with my humble pie on this one. We need class in the halfs and I think we have waited long enough to see it.

| I've not seen enough of Briggs to form an opinion, though he has done nothing to make me go wow. It does take time however to develop classic SO skills. Kevin Brown was identified several years ago as a future GB player, but it's only over the last year that he has shown those talents consistently.

That's your opinion. However, if it was a case of the club giving up on him, why was his loan deal only for 1 month and not until the end of the season? I think it's more a case of his dropping down the pecking order at Bradford and the club would rather he was getting more SL experience rather than being sat in the u21's. Also the rumours about our new half back mention quota players. So if any half back should be concerned about his place it's Herbert as he's not only a quota player but only here on a 1 year contract.

BJ is a scrum half and is taking on a lot of the organisational responsibility which seems to help him flourish, unlike his previous stint at Bradford where he was 2nd fiddle to Deacon and Harris.

Yes that "convenient" injury that put him out for a month or so. I agree fully, completely fabrication to cover his bad 2nd half performance

TBH, what you write and how you write it doesn't come off that way. It comes off exactly as people say, that you delight in seeing players fail

I will agree with you on that point, I'd also add that the way he plays he's more of a stand off than a scrum half which is another reason as to why the Briggs/Herbert partnership hasn't worked as both are playing to similar a game to each other.
Quote ="mystic eddie"
* Statistical data??? WTF? Stats can tart up anything you like. Getting desperate here. This is a guy that seems to excell in kicking out on the full when the ball is in play yet being unable to make touch from a penalty!'"
I think you've misunderstood what the poster has meant by that, probably because he was using fancy words to make his point seem more valid. But as you've always pointed out you don't go to games due to geography, so your opinions on players is shaped by highlights, the occasional tv match or radio commentary which isn't very good. So someone who goes to a game will see more of what players do than you will. I'm not trying to knock you, I'm just saying that you tend to go black or white with what you say without a full knowledge of events or situations and that's where a lot of the heat you get on here comes from.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. No one is expecting that to happen, but what will hopefully happen is Briggs will get game time, which will build his confidence and he should come back to us a better player than when he left. I don't see how anyone can see this as a bad thing.

| I honestly think that Briggs and Herbert will go on to be good half backs for the club. At this moment in time we need the experience that Jefferies brings but with the other two getting 1st team experience it can only be a good thing.

It depends if we keep Herbert for next year. His kicking game against St Helens was spot on.

| As I've said before, you can have Briggs in the team or you can have Herbert. But you can't have both together as they play too similar a game to each other to be effective. You need someone like Jeffries to play along side to compliment them.

pretty much sums it up. exact opposite of problem we had a couple of years back when we had deacs, harris and jeffries all trying to play the same organising role and we didnt have a proper running type standoff.
