True enough FA, but all the other clubs have been recruiting since the middle of the season, so I'm afraid we're already well behind. ![DEPRESSED icon_biggrin.gifEPRESSED:](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//a054.gif)

| Maccbull_BigBullyBooaza - correct.
No new props signed yet? Perhaps FC sees the future as a fast, fluid and agile team. Look at the problems Kearney, Burrows, Tomkins etc. cause. How many times have you seen a prop exchanged because he's kna - tired/out of breath. Not every ball needs to be returned by a prop. What is needed are quick thinkers who can take advantage of the situation. Kick the ball, 40/20's etc. To say that a team is only as strong as the number of props they have is, I think missing the point of how much the game has changed it's 2012 not 1912.
Failure to change and adapt has lead to the demise of many.

| I think it already happens with wings being used as first receiver for a quick scoot to break up the monotony of forwards mostly props driving up the middle, the Bulls have always done that and not just prop sized wings like TV and LV etc, but to fool todays defences you are going to have to be some fast jinky player the like of which you see once a decade and get nabbed by the K&C brigade. so sensible in moderation, but no substitute for a good contingent of props. and of course props arent what they used to be, much more athletic compared to the likes of those Featherstone props I used to watch on a Saturday afternoon.

I guess that only posts from ex-players are accepted and all the rest are ridiculed unless they agree or fall in line with "your" established thoughts.

| The game is constantly evolving and always will, I guess.
There is no substitute for pace, power or the ability to jink through a defence though, and in a physical, collision sport like RL there is still a place for all three. Even though many of the skills we took for granted a few years ago are no longer relevant (or represented on the field, other than by positional names), we could no more get by with a team of just speedsters or jinkers than we could with a team stuffed with just brawn.
Think of it as being a bit like the scissors, paper rock game; there is always a situation where each is top dog!

Can I suggest you form a think tank and head up to Odsal and revel your revelations to Franny and the rest of the coaching staff - I for one can not wait for fast paced, jinking centres tearing it up against all comers next year.........

Or perhaps its just taking longer to finalise the deals for the props?

| St Helens once went into the season with a very lightweight pack and were [url=http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/129352/Millward-in-heavy-traffic.htmlpillared for it.[/url At the time Millward talked about trying to reinvent the game without forwards but most people recognised that he's just been caught out with his recruitment. In fairness, they went on to win the Cup and lose in the grand final to Leeds, which I'm sure everyone except Warrington would settle for right now, but then they had players like Gidley in the centres rather than Platt.

| Can a proponent of no-props RL please explain why the Awesome foursome were so named and which 4 centres they would replace them with to be as effective in the war of attrition props usually engage in

| I would sooner take 3/4 props into a game and 2 centres rather than 5/6 centres. Props are pretty hard to stop when running full pelt, take 3/4 players to take him down, these 3/4 players have to get up, 2 have to get back to line, centre and winger comes in and takes advantage (or burrow/tomkins).

The events and names in that article don't quite match the years when Saints won the cup and lost the GF to Leeds.

It was 2003 when Saints went into the season with only two props (one of which was Barry Ward so he shouldn't count) and they didn't win anything that season. As a consequence Millward went out and signed Keith Mason mid season and Nick Fozzard for the the following year and they subsequently won the challenge cup but had their super league season derailed by the infamous betting scandal.

| Fielden removed from suggestions on original post squad list, Stuart Duffy's comments on the radio yesterday added: resigning discussions going very well in a few cases, short of props and talking to other clubs and players about that.
Sammut is a key resigning, if he does have a dispensation then that makes him even more attractive to other clubs, and that article about his 40 points did say a number of SL clubs were interested, so fingers crossed that discussions are going well with him.

Signed for Featherstone. He was one of the best in the Championship last season.
