flannery takes a full quota spot, cant see people being too impressed if we replaced menzies with flannery. on positive side though whilst his main position is loose forward he's also played 2nd row, and standoff, the last of which could be reason we'd be interested.

think its more a case of us being linked to any ooc saints players due to potter connection.

i would be happy with flannery coming to the bulls, a bit of pace, good in defence and offers a lot in attack. with him taking a quota spot though I'm not sure if he's a realistic target?

Significantly better than Hall, and proven so over a number of years. If he is fitter, leaner and able to play for longer periods with his impact then he would be a good addition. However, whether that is reality is the crux.

Still, Harry will know all that inside out.

That is true, he would need to maintain these levels. I'm a lot happier with his potential signing after seeing some of his recent performances though

How old is Flannery? if he is a direct replecement for Hall then yes..

A decent player but not the type of impact forward you desperately need.

Why would he replace Hall who is in year 1 of a 3 year contract? He has no desire to leave.

Flannery is a solid consistent, 80 minute pro who just gets on with it in the David Boyle mould and would bring a wise head and words to the young fellas.

A bit like Hall should be doing...

think you maybe getting a bit mixed up. theres 2 discussions going on simultaneously in this thread one about flannery and another about paleasina and it s paleasina who's being compared to hall in terms of fitness.
Only way we'll get rid of hall is if he asks for a release on compassionate grounds as, based on his performance so far no one is going to pay a transfer fee for him. And even if we allowed him to go on a free cant see anyone matching his wage at bulls, so he'd be daft to go elsewhere for a lower wage. I still suspect he's been carrying an injury as his fitness was never a problem at manly.

In all these rumours of players coming in has anyone heard of any halfbacks that have been linked with us? We surely can't be going into 2011 with only Orford and Southernwood can we?

As Peter Hood said. They know he's not a halfback, we know he's not a halfback, Paul Sykes knows he's not a halfback!

Hopefully that will mean he'll only play there in emergencies.

But McNamara was happy to play him and Kearney at No6 despite neither of them being stand offs.

I just worry about us being in the same boat next year. And if something happens to Orford we're back up poop creek.

Except Southernwood will be a year older and will hopefully have learnt our complicated defensive routines by then.

Maybe Worrincy will have as well.

At least I wasn't the only one to snort when Medders said Southernwood had to learn our defensive systems.

He did say it was entirely different to Wakeys. The poor lad needs time to move from one hopelessly ineffective defensive structure to our equivelent. Wakey focus mainly on grasping thin air and tripping over your own feet, whereas we try to aim for being out of position and too tired.

I should think that before new season training starts, the best starting point would not be to learn them, but for everyone to totally obliterate them from their memory, with drugs if necessary.
