I'm slightly concerned as we approach the new season after losing 132-0 to Dewsbury. Paul Sykes was rolling back the years and came away with a tally of 80 points. We should sign him up for next year. I was also slightly concerned about our new singing on the wing, Mick Gledhill.

Not sure Nobby did the right thing in picking himself at hooker. He looked a bit pedestrian out of dummy half. Like the look of the big lad Wood who played prop.

This fixture will feature some of those not selected against Huddersfield Giants this coming Saturday - and those in need of match fitness. Sounds like a academy/reserves fixture. Tickets are £5. Sunday's game against Newcastle has been cancelled. Parts of the pitch are still covered in snow and ice and with the temperature dipping below freezing the game is off.

Decent game today at Huddersfield. Expected it to be a typical friendly with errors, penalties and stop start nature. But it was actually a pretty good quality game to watch from both sides even with the big squads. Keyes looked in control and Lilley came on off the bench and really put himself about. Blake put in a high quality performance and has some genuine pace. Alongside several others - the backline in the 1st half was too strong for the Giants.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. I thought we looked solid. The energy levels dipped a little at times in the second half (To be expected at this point in preparations) but comparing our players to a fulltime outfit i thought the team did themselves proud.

Does anyone know much about josh hunt who played today?

Yesterday’s game was a massive test for us, going up against a fitter and stronger team from a higher division on a larger pitch, but the lads rose to the challenge brilliantly. The Giants clearly struggled with creativity in the halves, and with a few players out of position, they couldn’t capitalise on their opportunities. I felt Oliver Wilson was their stand out player closely followed by George Flanagan who set up a lovely try for Morrison (Glenn's son) in the corner. We put together some good field position in the first half and scored some decent tries. Blake's long distance effort being the stand out. Fulton, Ok and Blake will tear some defences apart next season. Baring the silly interception right at the end of the half, the Giants never looked like breaking us down and we played the majority of the game in their half. We were unlucky not to extend our lead, with three tries disallowed due to knock-ons and offsides. That said, our combinations still need some fine-tuning; Meadows throwing the ball into touch three times with an overlap shows there’s work to be done. Most importantly, it looks like we've come through the game unscatched. The win is a huge confidence boost and proves that we can compete against SL opposition when we bring that level of intensity. Let’s carry this momentum forward into the season. Exciting times ahead!
