Quote ="martinwildbull"its a big rebuild job, and all Potter has done this year is put a bit of scaffolding around to stop the place falling down, and a few footings in. having his workmen falling off the scaffolding at regular intervals hasnt helped. I've always seen it being more than a two year job to get anywhere near, so if he stays, and just the second year, I would hope to see the succession planned so theres progression into the third year. So not just Potter, thoughts on the rest of the coaching staff?'"
I guess we've basically been firefighting since around 2006 when the finances went awol, and it's only recently that we've really been coming to the point that we can stop fighting the fire and start rebuilding . To be fair to others I think the 'scaffolding' was erected before Mick arrived, particularly the decisions made to put more resources into junior development and the training ground at Tong, both being very welcome and big assets when looking forward.
I think we (and particularly Mick) were hampered far more than was obvious before this season by the Orford incident. The whole situation where we needed a half whilst [istill[/i having the previous guy on the books (not to mention tying up a quota spot) caused more havoc with our recruitment than we realised.
That said, it's over now (other than leaving us with strange assortment of halves in the squad) so hopefully we can kick on under Mick and develop further. Not sure how you can 'plan' progression though, other than having well qualified, experienced staff already in place, and I'm far from certain you could say that right now. I do feel confident with MP though, so hopefully he will be tied up with a new deal before then.
