Solomona doesn't deserve a starting spot after last week's "performance".
He needs to earn his place.

Spot on
He was off the pace, clumsy and mediocre. The guy's been nothing more than that over his whole time at the club

Strictly, he doesnt deserve a spot in the 17 after last week's performance. He had an 80% error rate.

| I'm sure his awful error rate had a lot to do with him being brought back from shoulder injury too early?
At least I hope that was the main reason.

I thought his error rate was due to the poor choices he made. I cant believe that any other player coming back from injury would decide to attempt killer offloads on their first four carries.
As for being brought back from injury too early, he was certainly brought back before shedding the excess 2 stone that he is carrying. I'd be inclined to send him off to fat farm and terminate his contract unless he gets himself fit.

| Frank Endacott's biography is pretty scathing about Solomona. He says that commentators and fans often go overboard about his amazing offloads. So much so that they can be going on about one piece of skill and fail to notice he's made several mistakes while they've been raving on about him. Endacott reckoned that the errors could often outweigh the skills. He also said that as a youngster doing sprints that Solomona would consistently pull up short to try and cut corners in training.
Now we don't have Solo's side of the story on any of this but it remains food for thought.

I fear the intended irony in my post did not come across. And yes, I agree with all of that.

| Solomona's deal is up at the end of the season, whilst he's been unlucky to get injured this year it's really down to him to get fit and find some form or he'll not get another anywhere let alone with us.
As a result I'd expect him to be trying his best. Maybe that's why he was trying the miracle balls versus Wakey?
I reckon it's probably going to be his last year with us so I'd like to see us give the likes of Whitehead, Olbison and Donaldson a few runs this year to prepare them for more in the future.

A lot of our players dont deserve a spot week after week yet they still get them. When youre down on numbers you have to make do with what we have, we can't afford to be picking and choosing and we need some creativity in the middle and some strength of the flanks, for the balance of the team, Solomona at 6 and Menzies and Sykes at centre is clearly a far better option than any other.

| Solomona at 6 would be a liability. He neither has match fitness nor a decent enough pair of hands.
I personally think that Langley's position is in the second row, he's a grafter but will never be a loose forward as long as he's got a hole in his backside.
Burgess should be playing at loose as he's shown that he has the skill (when he can be bothered and isn't believing his own hype). He doesn't operate well at prop, I don't think he's matured enough to mix it.

I reckon Burgess is better suited to the backrow where he can use his skills out wide. Trouble is we're a bit lacking in the prop department, Lynch is fantastic but Scruton is a bit out of form and Kopczak is still finding his feet. We lack a bit of grunt and so Burgess is being used to get us rolling forward. It's a bit like using a Ferrari to plough a field.
On Langley I agree he's mainly a workhorse, he lacks any creativity and rarely breaks the line.

| Agree on Scruton, he's not done much to impress since arriving. Although at least he looked eager against Leeds. Kopczak needs more game time, I say keep him in there.
Why not recall Matt James? From what I hear he's impressed on his stint there, he was showing good signs before that too.

I'd leave him there for now. I think he needs a longer spell at Fax to develop into the player we need, I'm not convinced he's SL class yet.

| Burgess, Lynch, Scruton, Kopczak, Langley, Solomona, that list of names supplies as much indication as any why we are pretty erratic so far this year;
Burgess may be being asked to do other roles, but there's no getting away from the fact that he's having a poor 2009 compared with the heights of some of his 2008 form.
Lynch cannot be criticised but seems to be carrying injuries frequently. Still, he's head and shoulders our best at the moment, Menzies excluded.
Scruton did well enough against Leeds but other than that has looked only average so far.
Kopczak to me has been second only to Lynch, he has come on a lot, but he's only a youngster still and is learning.
Langley is a disappointment. Sure he works hard but he used to regularly break the line, go on runs etc. yet now for some reason he never does. What happened to his potential? He's the right age now, we should be seeing the best of him.
Solomona, well, I am a fan of his creativity and special offloads but thinking about it, Endacott I'm afraid may well have it about right. Certainly, when we're struggling as we have been for form, we need a lawn-sprinkler type of player as much as we need a hole in the head, if there is one thing above all we need now it is ball retention when we do have it. We kill ourselves, and that's a fact.
In the light of the above, the signing of Menzies, big as it was, gains in importance and significance. If you take his immense contributions to every game out, we would be in dire straits indeed.
Not every player can play top of his form every week, but we are entitled, across the board, to expect much more from our pack men than we seem to be getting.

He'll get them around the park, but the positive is we've now got a good pantomime villain to boo on Friday Then there's Westwood too!
All set to be an entertaining game!

Imo if we had him on the park against Wakey we would probably have won. He seems to know how to get the team into shape and stop all the stupid mistakes.
