Canberra are after Craig Gower now, so may not sign Orford, leaving him free to come back to us.

He's always been free to come back to us. He already has a contract with us so whether Canberra want(ed) to sign him or not is irrelevant. He was always coming back to us unless we agreed otherwise with him and his potential new club.

Expect parra are still sniffing around though. Cant help but wonder if theres scope for a compromise deal between us and orford. He gives us 1 more year, or part off until we find a suitable mid season signing, and we release him from final year off his deal on a free. Strikes me plan is for cain to step up in 2012 fulltime anyway. Or have relations between us and ox broken down too far for that to be an option?

Orford will be expected back if no NRL club is prepared to pay a transfer fee. Doesn't pre season start at the beginning of October? It'll be interesting to see if he's back for that.

Last time I spoke to sources as close to the top as you can get, the club was working very hard behind the scenes to address the halfback issues for next season. Including the role of Orford. I think I saw Connor allude to precisely that on that tweety thing recently? Was made clear there was no way the club would conduct negotiations or disclose the subject and content of discussions - regarding and with whoever, it does not matter - in public. Notwithstanding understandable impatience of the fans, that is the single best way of screwing everything up. As those who have been involved in such matters will be all too well aware.

The club know at least as well as the fans the importance of bringing closure to this whole issue as soon as is practicable - I am in no doubt whatsoever about that. But at this stage all I can urge is that we trust them to be using their best endeavours to bring this about. We can then listen and judge when we have closure, and the club is able to talk more about what has actually been going on? In the meantime, all the speculation in the world will do little other than to wind up even more those of an impatient or nervous disposition?

I've just been told that Orford has already accepted he is playing for us next season, has already flown back to the UK and has had a meeting with Mick Potter last Sunday. The easy way to confirm/deny this is if anyone else has seen Ox about odsal over the last week.

Same person told me that Macca had set up both Pryces coming back to us next season but that Potter vetoed the plans

If a meeting has taken place its unlikely to have been at odsal as potter is still officially a saints employee. more likely in a hotel or board members house. And report linked to in one off later posts says orford is still in oz anyway. Doubt he could fly back without oz or uk media picking up on it tbh. Hope he is coming back as we would look a lot stronger with him in the team.

Tbh with a fully commited orford in the side and fit and given likes of kearney,sykes,addy, southernwood and royston able to play at standoff, we could probably manage without a new standoff. We would certainly look better with another halves option though if only for injury cover.
