We want an offer around the 90k/100k mark Matt.
The Canberra supporters are 50/50 if this outlay would be worth it in the long run.

| Where has this figure of 100 thousand come from? Surely the opening price the Bulls ask for is the full value of his contract?

From the Canberra paper.
It says that Bradford won't release Orford unless a figure of 90k/100k is paid for early release from his contract.
That smells to me like Pryce money.

Incorrect. He is going to Canterbury in exchange for zero money and instead the "agreement" to trade players over the next few years.

But unless these traded players are worth Nil, what's the difference? Whether I receive a cheque for £100,000, or else I sign players without payment who would otherwise have involved me in writing a cheque/s for £100,000, my bank account is still £100,000 to the good, isn't it?

Completely agree, it's a farcical smokescreen by both parties. Akin to their partnership with Souths a little while back, futile.
Still whatever floats their financial boat. Or not.
Albeit on last night's showing, Eastwoods stock has risen significantly. Pity his shorts didn't.

| leeds/canterbury thing certainly looks like a smokescreen to save face for leeds after they've found out no-one was prepared to pay the 100k. Think eastwood will be the only player to move between the clubs as part of this 'agreement'.

except club said at fans forum that the plan isnt to use him for more than about 10 games this season as part of his planned development. bit daft to make him the 1st choice kicker in that case.

cant really do that. your 1st choice kicker needs to play every week as kickings something that improves with practice. A lot of its a confidence thing and if your dropped from kicking on the odd weeks that a better kicker plays then its not going to help. notice how 1st orford and then sykes kicking gradually improved during the periods they we re doing it respectively and regularly. Thats down to practice and confidence.

But I do see Southernwood being the first choice kicker and perhaps one day surpassing the records set by Henry Paul and Paul Deacon.
Orford and Sykes both started off pretty horendously with the boot, but did gradually improve (for Sykes see the final home vs Wakefield).

so do I but not until he's a regular in the team. until then let him concentrate on the basics in the games he does get without putting the extra responsibility of kicking duty on him. Let someone else who will consistently be in the team each week be kicker and get the regular practice at it in the meantime.

I think they might get a touch more practice other than the shots they take during a game

bit different taking a kick on the practise field, and taking a kick with a few thousand opposition supporters trying put you off.

Sykes is a decent kicker on his day, but he's not reliable, and too many days are clearly 'not his'. That ultimately is the difference between a Deacon and Sykesy. Paul (like Orford) is just as [icapable[/i as Deacs of putting them over from the touchline, it's just that they don't do it regularly enough.

We won't know until October 6th.
If found guilty of said offence, unlikley to carry any kind of lengthy sentence or one prohibiting his obtaining a visa.
Key is, to simply not to lie to immigration officials. Numerous high profile individuals have received visas on the back of time served or sentences handed out.
Either way, JT won't be coming to the Bulls.
