People are growing very confident on the Wigan board that Deacon has definitely signed.

Maybe it's my pessimistic side that's kicking into overload now, but I can't help but see us losing Deacs to Wigan and then Orford choose to stay at Manly, thus leaving us with Kearney & Sykes as our only halves.

I would have thought that the Deacon deal will only properly go through if we actually sign Orford.

I don't think that you can underestimate the effect of Menzies. The guy is [isuch[/i a legend in Aus that no self respecting Aussie would give less that 100% in his presence.

That was also my thinking, but the rumour mill this weekend has Orford still to decide on which deal to accept and the Deacon deal done and dusted. Only rumour, I appreciate, but if that turns out true, it's a huge gamble. Here's hoping it pays off though!

I have it on good authority that Deacon won't be released until we have someone elses signature on pen and paper. Sykes & Kearney would leave Platt a whole centre birth and I just can't see us doing that.

Like a lot of people, i've heard that the Deacon deal is done, but my source told me that we will be getting a young half-back from Wigan on loan as part of the deal. He did't mention a name, but said the lad would have got in the team before Tomkins when Tim Smith got injured last season, but he was injured himself. Personally I wouldn't be best pleased with that, I think that for Wigan to loan us a player means that they no longer see us as rivals. Players are normally loaned from top clubs to clubs near the bottom of the table.

Much as I am not a fan of Deacs nowadays he is a Bulls legend.

However I agree with a previous post in that I would much rather see Brough and a class strike centre come in over just Orford on a great wedge of cash.

That's a lot of wedge for a 31 year old, but then again Graeme Bradley and Brad McKay weren't exactly spring Chickens when we signed them and they didn't turn out too bad did they??

Frankly, I think this is just rabid speculation, where do they get these numbers from?

I've seen the Bulls pull some daft moves but even I can't see the the club forking out over £800k for someone who'll be in his mid 30's in the last year of his contract!

If it (800k) is right, then I hope that it is only realisable through significant achievement bonuses.
