Why can't you believe it? When Eric Clapton left the Yardbirds in 1966, the band advertised for a new lead player in Melody Maker; they're the trade papers, it's what they're for.

There have been numerous head coach, assistant coach and other related jobs advertised in League Express before. It's hardly something new. Presumably they just haven't been noticed by most as they're not relevant to us.

I know it looks a bit daft, but loads of clubs have done it before and it's really not a big deal at all.

Now here is some food for thought for those who are indeed shocked at the advert being placed:

Let us imagine the not-uncommon scenario where your target or targets is or are already gainfully employed by another club or clubs? What are you going to do - approach them and try and poach them? Induce them to breach their contract, even? Bulls, of all clubs should know where that can get you.

Now if, however, you placed a nice bland ad in the trade press, and your target just happened to read it and just happened to approach YOU - and that IS what really happened cos both parties will say it was, and they are all totally honest people so it must be right - then you are in the clear. You'll not have some lost-his-rag chief exec. telling the world you "cohersed" his man away, or anything like that.

Been there, done that, got the tee-shirt saying "we put food in a starving lawyer's babies' mouths" in precisely this scenario.
