Diskin has never been the same player since his injury all those years ago. Really not someone we need at the club. Not a player i rate at all.

Even if we did have Dorn, we wouldn't announce him yet as he's quota and that would give too much of a hint that Ox was on his way. Any quota signing will be left until after pledge deadline and Orford's departure is announced (if he's going, of course).

Yeah he's a decent player, but we already have L'Estrange & Godwin, with a teenage hooker coming through the academy who the coaching staff are very very big on.

agree with that but are you sure that obst is off quota? theres a thread on wakey board where they are complaining that hes a poor use of a quota spot. unless hes in category where he comes off quota upon signing his next contract.

I'm crap with quota rules but I just automatically assumed with him being here as long as he has been, he wouldn't be quota. I honestly have no idea though as I just don't get the rules these days.

It's only those previously here as Kolpaks that are affected - e.g. Nero with his Italian (?) heritage. New Kolpaks can still get around any visa issues by that method, but not the quota.

Standard overseas players are still overseas players unless they become residents. RER stated the other day that they need to be 'British' already for this to have an impact (i.e. too late to apply to be British now and still come off the quota).

This is exactly why I think that Saints might well be looking to let Leon go. That pack is almost certainly the best in SL, but will also have to be the most expensive to maintain. Every one of those players is an international for England, Australia or NZ and I'd speculate that they're going to be averaging £100k a head. I'm not for a moment that Saints are overspending, but they're going to have to make some compromises to get under it next year.

Hargreaves, a proven good SL player who may or may not step on has gone and they are offering reduced terms to retain Meli. There will have to be other compromises there and if Bradford are prepared to stick a few quid in to take Leon then that could well work for them - he'll be on a decent chunk again and the money freed up for them would be needed for depth. Someone like Dorn could work much better in Saints team than ours for example, and the rest used to retain the likes of Meli.

Lots and lots of hopeful and very simplistic speculation in there, but basically, this is exactly what the cap is there for and I hope that it's us that are the beneficiaries...

It's perfectly simple. As long as a player has been playing here longer than the square root of the number of junior matches he played abroad divided by his first team appearances in SL then, as long as he had at least one grandparent who likes tea and can name the current monarch (multiple choice) then he is off quota subject to the number of months spent in the UK (excluding Neasden) being at least 7.5 times greater than the sum of times he has watched Neighbours. Except that none of this applies in the case of Obst, who is a piece of fruit.

Rob Burrow is taller than Raynor FFS. Unless he has been pumped full of growth hormones while sowing mail sacks.
