because his quota status isnt just related to the length of time hes been over here. The likes of nero who can get an exemption can do so for 2 reasons. 1st they were over here before the quota rules changed in 2008 2nd they were kolpak players under the old system. Anyone who was classed as a quota player under the old system cannot get an exemption (although I think if they got residency before the rule change they may qualify. afaik dorn has never had residency).

Lee Gilmour couldn't be doing with it especially once his daughter Ellie was born (he has always lived in Hanging Heaton near Dewsbury). Also Leon seems to tell everyone everytime he enters a pub in Bradford that he's coming back but he's been doing that since he left so I'd take it with a pince of salt. At the end of the day Saints are up there with the best and he's one of their senior players plus he still has a year left on his current contract.'"
But if we get the 90k/100k we are asking for Orford's release, would St Helens deem that a worthy payment for Pryce's release to us?

depends how mercenary st helens are. At this point in time Pryce is a more valuable commodity to us than to them. They have players on their books who can step into the standoff role and would probably not give pryce an extension at the end of his current deal. We on the other hand are desperately short in the halves department with southernwood needing another year before stepping up ideally. Saints know this and will hold out for the maximum amount of cash they think we will pay. same situation that wigan were in when we sold them fielden and we certainly took advantage of their predicament so we cant really complain if saints do the same.
If we had players capable of playing in the halves role and pryce was just to strenghen us then I'd have though 50-100k would be the transfer fee expected. because of our current circumstances Id guess that to at least double.

I think your spot on about Pryce being a much more valuable commodity to Bradford then St Helens.
But what might work in our favour is that St Helens have Eastmond and Lomax who need no introduction on here after their exploits this season.
I think they'll be the starting halfback parring for 2011 IMO.
So that should help knock down the figure.

like I said mick it depends how mercenary saints are. They are running a business at the end of the day and will want as much money as possible. Doesnt really matter that they have lomax and eastmond on the books other than meaning they will consider an offer rather than dismiss it out of hand. they have a new coach coming in and they might like the idea of freeing up a significant amount of salary cap space and having a large transfer fee coming in to allow him to bring a fresh face or two in.

| The more I think about the idea of Leon signing for the Bulls, the more I think it has serious grounds for possibility.
If Orford is leaving (which I have to accept from what I'm reading, may well happen) then the Bulls will undoubtedly have the finances and the ambition to recruit a senior half-back. Leon Pryce doesn't only fit that bill, he's nigh on perfect for it. Especially when you add the fact he's home-grown, trained by the Bulls, still lives in Bradford etc etc. He's a Bradford lad and I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to come back 'home' and play 6.
As well as this, no-one knows what Royce Simmonds wants to do at Saints, he may well like the idea of Lomax/Eastmond and with Leon only having one year left on his Saints deal, he may be looking for a last big contract somewhere, because I highly doubt he'd get it at Saints. They have a greater abundance of riches in the halves, sadly.
I'd certainly take Leon as a replacement for Orford. The dream would be to get them both together, but thats probably being a tad too optimistic!

| Leon is a good player and ticks a lot of boxes, but if we lose Orford we still need a good scrum half who can move us round. Leon is not the player for that role

Indeed, I don't think anyone would suggest he is. But fact is we also need a stand off.

Losing Orford will be a big mess all round. Leon would be the "fan pleasing / appeasing" signing but not the key one we would need. The scrum half replacement needs to be a good one........
Shame we can't ditch Glenn Hall and have two quota spots available, as he's not really justified his place in the team never mind the quota spot he's also taking up.

I know who he mentioned as I saw his original post in the first minute or so before he edited it and removed the reference to the player. Because it was removed so quickly I'm going to respect pauls wish to not name the player so I wont say who he said on the forum. All I will say was that it wasnt a name who I'd preeviously seen mentioned and its one I think most supporters would be happy with. oh and its not a half ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)
