To be fair, their whole team was an undisciplined rabble and that starts at the top with the way they are coached. He didn't look good against us, that's true, but he has some basic attributes and with a different coach in a different system it's maybe not fair to write him off?
Would I take the risk though? Mmm...tough one.

As a fan, why exactly have I been let down?
I don't feel let down. I am still sleeping well.
I do think it needs sorting soon but i do believe the players will be aware of what is going on and a week late won't harm them.
What Toovey and Chalmers will be discussing will be private and it doesn't concern me.
If we are still without a coach in a couple of weeks then yes, i will agree with you but not yet.

| Maybe Toovey is expecting the season to begin in July like last year when he took charge.

Let down in the way that the seemingly lack of organisation to get the coach confirmed before training starts smacks of lack of forethought on behalf of the club.

It's pretty simple to me.
I think it's clear that Chalmers and Lowe want Toovey to sign a new contract. Remember that's a contract to coach a third tier club. Who knows what off the wall structure the governing body will put in place for 2019? So everyone has to work on the assumption that it will be a minimum of 2 years before the Bulls might return to the top tier.
Toovey has been a coach, an assistant coach and a player at NRL play off level. He has been linked with various positions in Australia by well informed and well qualified commentators. I have not heard one of .those commentators dismiss his qualifications to be a serious candidate.
Of course he will want to explore those options. And he has his accountancy and business skills and experience so it's not as if he's without options outside the game.
The Bulls are not the stronger party in these negotiations.

In fact, Toovey has been quoted as saying he only took the Bulls job as a favour to Chalmers and Lowe.
And as for the talk of restructure of the leagues? I don't see that happening. The current system can be called a success. P&R is in place and is demonstrated to be working, it was only because of the first year where Bradford screwed the pooch and failed in the MPG (as well as in a number of the qualifying matches) that they're the odd team out. After that, the MPG has been between to SL teams rather than the expected bottom of SL vs top of Championship match most thought they'd see.

| I'm of a slightly different opinion on the league structure at the minute. Though it appears to be working it only works for clubs that are super league in set up and funding. (hence our plummet)
So what's the point of sending one club down for a year in the part time league every year? I suppose with Toronto it makes it slightly more interesting if they really go for it but all it really gives us is a set of SL teams with 2 of them in the Championship each year? What purpose does it serve?
Not a long stretch of the imagination to just say why not just extend the SL to add Leigh and Toronto. No PT clubs could make the transition over a season anyway? Whilst were at it why not just bring licencing back and have done with it?
Realistically, in my mind, the whole charade of play offs is just a conscience salve unless there are two leagues of full time teams that can compete consistently.
Bouncing Leigh and KR just makes it hard for them to build for SL, esp if they didn't finish bottom anyway? And there's more chance of England beating the aussies 96-0 in the final than ever standing up 2 FT divisions. There isn't enough money or skilfull players about?

From todays T & A Geoff Toovey's current contract is understood to run out later this week and there have been discussions with joint-owner Andrew Chalmers in Australia trying to persuade him to stay on.

Not a sentence one wants to read now pre season has started!

| I don't think gt showed enough to suggest he's worth that much effort, he did ok with the resources/situation, and like others I'd be interested to see what he could do with a full pre season with his players and I'll back him if he returns. However I'd rather we had someone with more experience of coaching outside of the top tier and someone who clearly wants to be here and sees us as an opportunity not a fall back option. Even in our current state I suspect we would have a few suitable candidates to choose from.

| Interesting to know who is available though, bearing in mind any p/t coach with outside employment is required to manage the f/t part of the squad

| Well, because we are unlikely to get anybody remotely at his level in the game. And from his POV I assume he would take a better job if one came along, as would we all. And I assume he has in mind the loyalty shown by the club to predecessors and is rightly mainly looking after number 1. As we all would.
If Chalmers as employer hasn't given him a deadline then whose fault - if that is a fault - is that? If Chalmers is happy to give Toovey until November to see if he wants this job or some other, can you blame Toovey and his agent for using the time?
Toovey is not a Bull. he has no historic connection with the club, and only officially started when the season was nearly over. He doesn't owe us much, in the circumstances he was thrown in. So why should he wear sackcloth and ashes if offerd say an NRL assistant job or similar in sunny Aus? How many of those criticising him have yet bought a season ticket?

I thought that a couple of months ago. And still thought it weeks afterwards. It's now dragged on so ridiculously long that I'm no longer convinced Chalmers has a clue either.
