| Quote ="MDF"Rinaldi started as a scrum half and has played stand off in his time. As we are down to two fit players to cover the three main pivot positions, attempting to recruit someone with this profile is absolutely the right thing to do, and while I have doubts about Rinaldi's quality and consistency, I'd be surprised if there were many other options.
As for Horton, given that he's not named in the squad, wouldn't we require special permission - not to mention probably an upgrade to a full time contract - to play him?'"
Don't think so, we had to play two part timers against Hull KR this season and they have remained on part time contracts, if they're registered with the club then I believe they are eligible for selection.

| I'd assume that there's scope to extend his deal should we need it. Thing is, what has he been doing since his release from quins? Cos if he's not in a state where he can get match fit very quickly it's all a bit pointless

| 2 month deal makes good sense and should avoid us having to rush anyone back from injury. If Deacon's been playing all season with a nagging injury let him get fully fit rather than throwing him back in as seems to have been done with Solomona through necessity.

| Its like a happy ending really. Lets go win the Grand Final...wait, am I dreaming? I've always rated Rinaldi since he was at Wakey. Hopefully he'll prove himself. Still not the long time world class scrum half we're looking for like...

Hence a 2 MONTH contract.

| Absolutely, I did notice that.
However I think he'll prove himself to be good enough and get a longer contract, at which stage we'll lose the cash to spend on someone good. I vote ditch the Deacon.
There's a petition in there i think.

Don't forget that Deacon comes with a £50k supplement to the salary cap, so if, IF...we are at the cap (or will be) then Deacon is better value than he might first appear.

He Is Australian. And I'm all for getting good english talent, or bringing through the youth. but it would be nice to bid for Campese?
www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,865 ... 14,00.html
out of contract at the end of the year. Not a regular for origin or australia national team. Might come over. Although its alot of money. Wonder if he would fit under the cap? If we offload our 'useless' players.

| Good bit of work by the club this IMO.
A player of proven SL quality who is available, willing to come to Odsal for the right price and can cover both the areas we are currently weakest, who is also willing to sign a short term deal so we don't open ourselves to any long term issues (in case the player doesn't fit in, we want to spend the cap money elsewhere, we want to bring through academy products etc), and the player can try to prove himself to earn a longer deal...excellent all round if you ask me, just a shame he's not over in time for tonight.

This has been completely misunderstood.
The idea of Deacon being good value is that, were we to get rid of him, he wouldnt only leave space for a half back but he'd leave a hell of a lot of room on the Salary Cap. Its all irrelevant like cos Macca is never going to get rid ever.
