To be honest, in RL areas, the kids who go to lower division clubs, [itend[/i to be the ones the SL clubs haven't creamed off as juniors (or have discarded later), and yeah, there are definitely the late developers but they are very few and far between, so the props (and other positions) playing in the championship are there because, in general, it is their proper level and I'm not being disparaging in saying that as, in the great scheme of things, that is a pretty high level in itself.
RL, as a game, has a relatively small footprint in the country as a whole though, and to be fair it makes little sense to disregard the many people who have simply had the 'misfortune' to be born in the wrong place. The fact they may have gone to RU (as the only, or maybe just the major, option in their area) doesn't mean they can't, or won't, make it in RL, particularly as they have already gone for the rugby option. It is pretty difficult for clubs to target such people and I guess the onus is on them to make the first move by maybe coming for trials, but there is no reason for clubs not to be as proactive as they can be.
I'd definitely agree it would be better to have got them as juniors in the first place, but sometimes, I guess, geography gets in the way. The truth is that many kids who would have been far more suited to RL, go to RU for no other reason than that is their only option if they wish to play the oval ball game. For these people I'd say welcome, better late than never.
