Hence the Central Park project at Wigan.
Do a bit of research.
Hull, Huddersfield etc do not own their own grounds

Totally agree. The name is very easy on the tongue, and has the big advantage that it doesnt even sound like a sponsored stadium, which will mean the media will use it without any thought about giving away free advertising.
The name is also A-political which isnt really the case with getting sponsored by certain companies.
Langtree are onto a winner with this as even if after a number of years they fail to renew the sponsorship, people will probably still refer to it as Langtree park.
Using park in the name also conjures up legendary sporting venues such as Lang Park, Croke Park, Villa Park, St.James Park, Fenway Park, and dare i say it Central Park. The last one in particular will be a subtle and cruel reminder to all pies of what they used to have. Especially when they walk past Tesco's to get to our stadium.

Not in the St Helens Star report anyway. That might come out later or it might not.
Fraser Deighton at Sky Sports has been tweeting pics of the stadium.

Yorkshire borrowed that money to buy the cricket stadium, not the whole complex.
Leeds CF&A Ltd (Leeds Rhinos) still own the Rugby League stadium, the pavilion (hub of the corporate facilities), the land south of the South Stand and there is a slightly complex deal regarding use of communal/circulation areas, most of which are also still owned by Leeds.

Isn't it technically correcy that Leeds CF&A Ltd own Headingly and Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Carneige?
Basically the Rhinos' are owned by the same company that owns the ground. The ground is not their asset but another asset of the owning company of both.

| What's the point in arguing whether one team owns its ground or not? It's pretty irrelevant really seeing as we've found that several don't and yet they still continue to win trophies.

Very true.
Sometimes ownin your own ground can become a burdan too if not done correctly or poor facilities like you guys had at KR and it starts making losses.
In this case owning your own ground and most importatly the function rooms / corporate boxes (something SO'C made sure Widnes have control of) you should make a bomb!

True, however Wigan being stuck in somebody else's ground with no prospect of making serious money out of it is worthy of note
Still need to correct this for the record though

No. Leeds CF&A Ltd is the trading company of Leeds Rhinos and it also owns the RL stadium; there has been no separation of team from ground. Leeds RUFC Ltd isn't even part of the Leeds Rugby sub-group anymore; since being returned, unwanted, by Leeds Met they've been owned by a different branch of Caddick plc.

I doubt any Wigan fan would be reminded by Langtree Park of Central Park.
We don't need any subtle or cruel reminder. Those Wigan fans fortunate enough to have been to CP will never, ever forget it.
Yes in an ideal world I'd like Wigan to have our "own" stadium, but in an ideal world you'd probably prefer your club to be able to generate bigger crowds. An 18,000 capacity stadium just wouldn't be big enough for Wigan, so on merely practical grounds we can't envy you.
I have to say though that it looks a great ground. I know the Langtree guys and they are a good outfit. They've worked very hard for years on this project and really have delivered for the town.
