Jamie Lyon for me, just. The only thing that JL has over Gidley is his goal kicking, oh & can also fill in at 6.

Gidley for now, but I'd want Lyon in the future when Gidley retires.

I was going to abstain, though on second thoughts, Lyon's goal kicking sees him get the nod off me.

I'd like to have seen Gidley at the age of 23 to truly compare the two.

Both outstanding players.

Gidley is fantastic but Lyon is faster, scored more trys, could score from long range from nothing, provided every bit as good a service to his winger, could kick goals, better tactical kicking in regular play and every bit a good a defender as Gidley.

We have been spoilt.

Could we not have Gidley on the right and Lyon on the left ?

i suggested this when gidley arrived, the timing is a little late now, and the other teams would take their ball home anyway

Overall I'd have to go for Lyon based on his goal-kicking ability, otherwise they are dead level.

Its the age thing. They are both fantastic players and would be first on the team sheet for every game but if i had to choose it would be Lyon cos hes the younger.

I think Gidley is the most clinical player I have seen at . When he and Gardner are 2 on 2 against the defence in the attacking 25 - it is almost always a try.

Lyon on the other hand had similar sorts of skills to Gidley but with more pace and a touch of magic. He was much more dangerous from further out, and come up with some mind boggling moves and passes.

I wouldn't really like to choose, but I think Lyon edges it. Seems unfair comparing though, we have been very lucky to get both players. A pleasure to watch!

I think you have pretty much cracked it. With Lyon, he was a bit more of an individual, a line breaker, he could go through and score. Gidley is a wingers wet dream, his ability to draw in the opposition winger to give his wingman free space is without peers in SL. Conversely, you wouldn't expect to break through the defence and scorew from distance.

I'd say Gidley just.

Just for his all round play.

The amount of tries he's made and scored, unbelivable.

Nothing in it. By far and away the best two centres that have graced super league.

Imagine both players in the same team.

We have been blessed with centres in the summer era (until someone mentions Damien Smith anyway....)

I'd say Lyon is the best centre we've had. He could kill a game off on his own, and had pace and goal kicking ability that Gidley doesn't have. Both are fantastic players though.

If we had them both, who would play on the left? And would this detract from their ability? Hopefully we shall see.

I agree with all that, it's no slight on Gidley but Lyon definitely had/has the edge for me. It would be amazing if we could get him back.

Newy in his pomp was up there with them IMO.

Gidley has better decision making and defence, but Lyon had that pace to create something out of nothing and score a try from our own half, not to mention his goal kicking. Because of this Lyon is better IMO.

Lets have em both in the team.
Sure Gidley has a couple of seasons left in him,
rumours of Lyon coming next year.

I cant choose between them.
I would say Gidley because hes the man of the moment, but if it was the other way round and Lyon was playing for us now like he did a few years back Id probaby say Lyon.
Plus Lyon was a great kicker.

If you want an attacking Centre you can look now further than Newlove - we seem to forget with the passing of time just how good he was - none better in my opinion and he did it for a long time for us.

For all round play Gidley edges it over Lyon on the right - however then we take into account Lyon's age and his flare going forward. It's a dead heat so I'd go Lyon because of his age and goal kicking.

But then again........



As close a call as your gonna get between the two.

I would say Lyon was the better individual and his kicking counted for a lot, Gidley is possibly a better team player and is even better at making space for his winger and putting tries on a plate for him.

Very tough decision to call, in terms of the partnership with Gardner I would probably just go for Gidley.
