| In a funny way I bet wished he'd never taken the saints job.
It's a very big job to try and rebuild saints when he can't sign players on.
I was told Morgan turned saints down and he was very clever.

| I voted to stay.
I think he has come at a difficult time and has had problems exercising his authority on the senior players.
In the next year he will need to build his own team, a difficult task with few new signings but any other coach would have the same problems.
I think we need to give him more time

| Quote ="St pete"I'm not happy with the way the team has played all year but I've voted for potter to stay next year.
It's been tough on him with certain things that have happend this year. He's took over the club in the 3rd year we ain't made signings which IMO has made this current squad stale. Fresh blood means more fights for postions.
The longy and gilmour situation won't have helped either.
Also this year we've had players out injured which don't help with a thin squad.
I can't think of to many games that DA had the likes of eastmond, wheeler, ashurst, dixon all in the 17 at same time which has been regular for potter.
I'd like sir mac to back him with some good signings(a top class prop) and then we can judge potter.
IMO he can't do the job he did at Catalan because our pack ain't as good, big or rough.
I say lets give potter a chance, after all DA wasn't so hot in his 1st year either.'"
With you all the way, that's just about how I feel.

Maybe Anderson was very clever in leaving when he did!
Potter has a thankless job, but whats the worst that can happen? follow in Andersons footsteps and fail in the play-offs?

I don't think we would have finished top even with DA for the reasons I've put in my post earlier in this thread.
I do think we would have beat hudds in the semi under DA. I think he would have gone with same tatics smith did for wolves in the final.
I was pretty shocked that potter couldn't find away to pin hudds defence closing us down out wide.
I also think we would have more direction under DA.
It's been tough year for potter this year trying to step in to DA shoes but he's got a few monkeys off his back now.

| I've voted for stay.
IMO, he has a very hard job, and with us winning so much recently, some people have forgot what it's like to lose. I admit, I've only see Saints win things, but I've had the talks about the loses at Wembley and not winning things for years, you realise you can't win everything and there are the ups and the downs.
Potter has got a job, that's to keep us competitive. He may not be coaching to peoples style of play, but just thank god we haven't had Noble for the past few years.
As we have seen over the past 2 seasons, we can't win everything and I'm guessing some fans are now taking winning for granted and that Saints have the devine right to win every game.
Just remember, we haven't got the Sculthorpes, Joynts and Newloves, we are trying to create the Eastmonds, Wheelers etc which will pay dividends in the end.

| He needs to stay and everone support him in the difficult transiton towards future success.
We,ve only got 2 seasons before the overseas quota reduction hits hard on the clubs, hopefully Saints will be ready with a new breed of young players in a brand new stadium.
I say back Mick potter and let him get on with the job.

In seriousness to offer some crumb of defence to Potter, he was hardly going to be Mr. Popular given that sevarl contracts were up.

| ffs.. You finished second.. Things could be worse . He can't be doing such a bad job of it for you to finish in such a high position in the league table . There are one or 12 teams that would more than willingly swap table positions with you .
Stop your moaning and get behind him and support him .

People keep saying this but Millward was in charge for the first third of 2005. 2006 was DA's first full season. So this is not true at all. In DA's first full season he won............EVERYTHING.
Having said all that Potter deserves more time as long as he isn't still persisting with this 'five drives and a kick' drivel being served up in the last 3 months. In fact it's not even been that good, more like 3 drives and a knock on.
Losing just doesn't upset me as much as the boring rugby being served up. Entertainment is what is called for.

| Of course he should stay. A bunch of folk that have never been out of the house and who's only friend is a virtual one shouldn't decide.
He's done reasonably well under difficult circumstances and can only get better.

| unless he pulls a rabbit out of the hat and we win the GF he should be shown the door at the end of the year and I voted that way. My reasons are simple - the team looks disorganised and poorly coached and rumours of unrest certainly add fuel to that fire. We cant even manage 5 drives and a kick atm , we normally botch the kick. Sean Long has come out int he press to admin he is confused with the tactics and why oh why is Potter choosing now in the season to start D!cking around with stuff he should have done in the off season ???? P!ss poor

People keep saying this and it's a load of crap. We have established players running round like headless chickens and even WHEN we have our first choice halves playing they look lost. It's crap coaching & tactics

| as a Wigan fan I would love him to go, and hopefully you have a series of short tenures as we did.
Also on my wish list is Graham to us.
Fozzard back to you
some blinding performances by Longy against you
Edwards back to Wigan,
maybe even another salary cap breach by yourselves too
this will go some way to erasing the temporary dominancy over us the past few seeasons

| Not a trollpost this, but a genuine observation.
Your situation is starting to look to me just a teeny bit like ours did several years ago. The trend of the comments certainly is.
Ours was caused primarily by the music having to stop after several years of spending well beyond our means, and with heavy stadium and other costs building up. And look what happened to us
Maybe something similar - if likely not so drastic given you still have the sugar daddy we have always lacked - is at play here too?
As I said, serious question.

I would nto call Big Mac a sugar daddy - affluent - but not a sugar daddy.
His big advantage is that he knows how to run a company given his background as a senior member of HSBC, so in this regard he is what Saints need (and always did in the past for that matter).
The big difference tio Bradford is that we have a cluster of young players who are looking good. The forwards have done a good job and I expect them to kick on next season, whilst the backs look particularly able to progress. This is not even thinking about the likes of Maggenis who many in the know at Saints believe has the biggest future of the lot.
The killer factor will be Potter’s ability to keep everything together and get it all right.

Fair point. That was very much a major part of the Bulls' problem when the spending had to be cut. We managed to lose to other clubs a large part of the next generation coming through the youth development (and there were a number of good ones), something the club seem to be pinning on the Caisley/Noble "final days" regime. Meant we had to sign too many expensive journeymen while the academy was rebuilt, and that obviously meant we had little to spend on marquee signings. And you can see the consequences of that in the league table
Bulls youngsters are looking good now, and I suspect you'll see a revolution in the first team squad over the next year or three. Just such a shame its three years or more later than it need have been. We still seem to struggle to produce backs though - got any good'uns to spare...?
Are your youngsters near enough or ready to step up to the plate? If they are then you'll likely avoid the worst of what we had to deal with. And OK EM is not one to shower money at things like some other wealthy owners, but at least he HAS put loads in and remains there as the funder of last resort. Huge peace of mind from that, something we have never had. And yes, I totally agree his track record as a shrewd and experienced business manager needs little introduction.
