Really shocked by this announcement. It won't look right with Longy not in a Saints shirt, gutted by his departure.

But, on the bright side, next year it gives Wheeler/Eastmond/Smith the chance to develop and make the no. 7 jersey their own.

I agree this seems a good move by all. I am especially pleased for Long who obviously feels he has got longer to offer at the top level. As an earlier poster said, he owes Saints nothing and we can never pay him back for all he had given us.

Good move for Saints, good move for Sean, good move for Hull.

Sad day, but I can't complain - it's the right time for it.

What a legend the guy has been though. His last game will be an emotional affair ... hopefully it will finish with him lifting the SL trophy.

I'm surprised you're letting Long go as I would have thought that he'd have been a Saints player until he retires.

Can't just keep giving out contracts until someone retires - they'd never retire!

It's going to be intresting who saints play scrum half next year. IMO wheeler has proved he can hold his own but eastmond has not had the game time to prove it.

Not sure if wheeler and eastmond would make good halfback partner for pryce.

We need a ball playing 7 who can move us round the pitch and control the game.

It's shame long didn't do 1 more year.

He is old, his kicking is crap and we doing the rite thing letting him go.

With nobody at the level needed to step up it would have been ok if he did another year in which we could bed eastmond in.

Is that not common sense?

And also IMO he could have maybe done another year to help either eastmond or wheeler.

To be honest you ass I would have liked longy to do a year but it's prob better all round for sean, saints and hull.

Sad day. Another of the amazing quartet is set to leave the club. First Scully and now Long, with just KC and Wello left.

Couldn't have put it better myself. It would be great if we could see him off with a trophy in his final season here. He's been nothing short of a legend. It's good that we know when he's going so we can see him off properly.

Along with Joynt and KC he's been one of our key players throughout Super League and it's sad that an era is coming to a close. What it does do is give Eastmond and Wheels the opportunity to stake a claim for a starting half back spot and although Wheels has looked more comfortable at the top, Eastmond has a good enough kicking game to make the 7 spot his.

They should bring out a Saints t-shirt with 7 on the back and Lance Todd written above the number.

I'm sure the biggest shock for him will be moving up to Hull with a young family. Every club he has played for has been within a small area close to home, just hope that he copes with it.

Absolutely gutted.

Should have given him a 2 year deal; clearly other SL teams still believe in him more than we do which must hurt.

IMO we got this one wrong and we should also have considered the effect this will have on the team morale. He has some very close friends in the team who might not be looking forward to next year quite as much who might also be thinking about their future and how loyalty is treated etc etc.
