Banister has the talent it's just his attitude at one stage which let him down, he's back for now for us and i cant wait to see him go. Tyrer has problems in defence and if he can sort that part of his game out he will be a handy player as he can finish.

Wasn't Chris Dean on loan for your lot at the same time as Tyrer? If so how would you compare the two whilst playing in the same team?
In my opinion, in 12 months time Dean will be way ahead of him in the pecking order anyway.

I think the fact Dean is still at saints and very much part of the 1st team squad while Tyrer is playing reserve level at the team likely to get the wooden spoon sums it up ... I watched em both play for Widnes and Tyrer seemed to have found his level tbh

| Sorry to say this but Ste Tyrer is yesterday's man.
Dean and Foster are the present. Whether they will be the future remains to be seen.

Tyrer scored a few trys if my memory is correct, but I remember the commentators mentioning how good Dean had been for Widnes a few times whenever they were playing.
Tyrer is an excellent finisher close to the line, but he appears to be unwilling to knuckle down, learn his trade and bide his time, if RG's report is correct. Sad, but thems the breaks for a good percentage of youth players.

| Tyrer is a big lad but has never looked like he had the ability to ever make it in Super League. I said it from the start and people criticised me for calling him when he was so young. He'll do well for Rochdale or Keighley I suppose.

| I certainly dont feel sorry for him. He isn't, never has been and never will be good enough to play for Saints in the Super League. Even when he was being touted as the next big thing, he couldn't tackle, had no pace and looked over weight.

| In fairness to Steve I believe he had a bad asmha attack when he first went to Celtic and was in hospital for a few days he was told then unless there was a injury crises he would not play Super Leauge.

| The very 1st time I saw him I knew he wasn't super league class.
Looks good with ball in hand near the line but his defence was and still is rubbish.
If you miss tackles in the centre then more times than not you pay for it.

Thats a shame but if he is medically fit enough to play in the reserves, he is fit enough to play superleague, he should be trying as hard for both sides

I do feel sorry for him to be honest. Like most young lads who play the game he is, in my opinion, not good enough to make it at the top, but, through no fault of his own, he must have had his expectations built up to a fever pitch.

| We all do it and I am probably more guilty than most. Some kids just don't seem to be able to take that next step up for whatever reason.
Some of them cannot hack the discipline, some think they've "made it" the minute they get into the first team and some just don't progress.

Some cant handle the pressure? some who look ordinary at academy turn out to be world class, long for example. Some who look world class turn out to be average. A scout is not an easy job

| You also have varying levels of physical growth too contend with too. A bigger/stronger player at youth level might look exceptional until his peers physically mature.
Then its a case of whether they are talented enough to adapt.

| I still think Tyrer has a shot at being a regular in SL.
Whether that is at Saints remains to be seen.
Needs to sharpen up on his defence but I always thought he went well with ball in hand.

TBF Long never looked ordinary at academy level to me. He had a couple of nasty injuries and Wigan decided it was time to cut their losses. I remember him playing stand off outside Craig Murdock in a reserve game at Saints and he completely took us to pieces. After that I was made up when we signed him.
However, in general I take your point.

And I think that pretty much sums it up regarding Tyrer.

| He is doing it tough down at Celtic.
However he still has youth on his side having only just turned 20.
Im personally disappointed at how things have so far turned out down at Celtic. Im sure Saints arent best pleased either, as the whole point of him going there was to get SL experience. As it is, his year has been so far completely wasted.
Hopefully he will be mentally strong enough to put it behind him and come back a stronger individual for it.

What is the point of you recalling him? If he isn't good enough for Celtic, then he isn't good enough for Saints and you may as well leave him there.
It is up to him to work his way into the team and play well.
It is all in his hands.
