Hargreaves is our weakest prop by some distance. You only need to look at his stats to understand that. He makes the least number of yards per carry out of all our props, and is right at/near the bottom of carries (excluding Cayless).

Bryn Hargreaves 7.0m per 214 carries.
James Graham 7.2m per 562 carries.
Marue 8.15m per 250 carries
Tony P 8.76m per 307 carries.

Tony P's figures are unreliable as he switches to second row where there are easier yards.

Bryn is an excellent fifth prop, but is nowhere near being a fourth. If he starts next season as the latter we'll need a LOT of luck with injuries to be successful.

i dont know how long he was on for but he got a full 53 mtr from 7 whole carries( 7.5 m/carry) Thats not immense, its pants

Keith Mason is impressive isn't he. Turned into a very good player so he has.

Yeah fair play to him. Still gives away lots of penalties though, which was one of the things that frustrated me most about him at Saints.

Mason has always had the physical attributes to succeed. He's a pretty big guy and has that stocky barrel physique (along the lines of Clough, or even Webcke, who I used to think he was a dead ringer for) with a low centre of gravity, which means his point of first contact (the chest) is below the height that defenders are most comfortable hitting. Webcke exploited the advantage to the full by hitting this point and then driving up and [ithrough[/i - effectively impaling the tackler on his shoulder and lifting him off his feet. Of course, Webcke could do this because he had tremendous leg strength (similar to Cunningham's). Mason does not. Webcke also had a brain. Mason does not.

I don't like bagging our players, but that isn't good enough for a first team Prop.

The worst thing in the world are stats, why, coz from 161 mtrs, for 26 carries you get 6.1 m/carry.... go bag someone else or check the stats better would be my advice

they're not the be all by a long way, but an important way to measure the impact of players. All top coaches live by stats, the Ozzies live by them, perhaps that's where we are going wrong?

I've never been impressed by Bryn and never thought him good enough he never seems to put everything into the first collision. Not even sixth prop for me!

In fact I'd also agree he's looked worse this season.

We desperately need a new prop to help Jammer whose stats tend to suggest he's struggling and not getting through the work mainly because of the amount he's doing. We have really missed what Cayless was supposed to give us this season.

Was letting Fozzard a big mistake - he was settled in the team and worth a two year deal in my opinion.

Fielden didnt drop off the face of rugby league talent world because he was flogged to death running balls up all day. He dropped off the face of the rugby league talent world when his confidence got obliviated when willie mason farted on him.

As for our props, I can't believe this thread is so long with people jumping on the bandwagon. Have a look at yourselves, more than a few knee jerk reactions to a semi final loss i feel !

its not about the semi final loss, its about jammer being our only real prop all year.

It's not on the back of the loss although our injuries cost us dear.

I've been saying since we let Fozzard go that we needed to replace him and that Bryn isn't good enough.

No the rock 'n' roll lifestyle was last week at the rebellion punk festival thanks, and your the one who up to last week had all the concrete evidence that the salary cap had no effect on your squad , now prove it doesn't .

To be honest in my opinion the salary caps biggest problem is the fact young players can be overplayed due to injury to senior players, and senior player seem to me to rushed back a little to soon or played with injury that should be rested , possible shortening there playing careers , some of this is due to lack of cover in the senior squad because of the financial restraints of the cap .

can someone who was at hull please enlighten me as a rough guestimate of how long Bryn was on the field on Sunday? and did he get injured?
