Can't we flog Dawson to Salford or England RU and use some of the spare cash for Tomkins?

I have to laugh at whopper saints fans like Saddo saying hes second rate lol. The fact is, this season he has been unplayable for the warriors and is certainly, up there as top 3 fullback and I would even say, there is no one better currently in the NRL at linking the halves with the three quarters.

But by all means, dont watch any NRL and then comment how awful he is. He would walk into our team and be the best player by 4 country miles

Because the competition for our fullback slot is so hot, Lomax with knee's of biscuit, Wellens who's 36 (or close) and Hohaia.

Nobody on here honestly thinks he wouldn't improve our team, he would obviously improve any team in SL to some degree

He's the best player British RL has produced since the Hanley/Gregory/Edwards era. Period.

Not a chance! He is an outstanding, world class talent in attack. His defence is acceptable at best.

I'd have him in a shot but he's nowhere near the best player since the aforementioned era.

It would seem obvious that the goons are favourites given the £750k they received for him and having spare on the cap.
However both us and Leeds have the funds available - I'd leave wire out as Moran has zipped up his wallet.

Name me one better? Tomkins has an x factor, game breaker that terrifies opposition teams when he gets the ball. He has flaws in his game but he's a natural talent and the attention surrounding him is for a reason if you'll tale your Saints glasses off for a minute. He's been standout in the NRL in that role this year. That's an objective statement not the usual Saints laden myopic rubbish spouted on here too often.

Agreed. Here's a few more great players since that era IMO Sean Long, Bobbie Goulding, Paul Newlove, Jason Robinson, Danny McGuire, Adrian Morley, Gareth Ellis, Gary Connolly, Rob Burrow, Sean O'Loughlin, James Roby...just to name a few more.

Sam Tomkins is absolute class, and his name definitely belongs in the company of the players mentioned above.

It's all tricky to judge as well because of the different positions. It's not even fair to compare full backs as the positions changed so much

I think far too many people are overrating players here.

Tier 1 are THE BEST (or arguably so) in their position in the NRL.

That means Inglis, Cameron Smith, Burgess, SBW, Graham etc.

It's a very, VERY exclusive group.

It's all just personal opinion. You've invented this tier 1 thing in your head to help you process how good certain players are.

IMO the definition of a great player is personal to each fan and it's who inspires you ie Tommy Martyn was a genius...Huddersfield fans probably think similar of Danny Brough. Both not given a fair crack for their country. Anyway, I forgot what my point was. Oh, and the NRL isn't the only league to have great players.

Haha, I was stood in Geno's waiting for my kebab when I typed that out, hence me losing the point of what I was on about (Some proper bladdered bloke was going mad about how he wanted chips and his wife was trying to usher him out).

What I was trying to say (in a really bad way) is that it's a team game. Yes, there are a few outstanding individuals, but the effect and influence they have on a game can also depend on the players around them and their teammates ability to be on the same page. So an exceptional hooker (that you would describe as Tier 1) would stand out much more with the right forwards around him than if he was at Batley or wherever.

Agree in RL it is a team game, also there are a few outstanding individuals, but I don't think the sport these days has many Real True Superstars, that people say I will go to watch the game just to see them.

You'll prob get some stat now on his Batley have the 2bd best pack in world rugby abd haven't been dominated since 2007.
