You have a very selective memory Pete. 2011 was just the same, except we had Robes and Graham available for most of it. Wilkin played in the halves during that season too, along with Nathan Ashe. At our match away against Hudds, we fielded a 13 over half of which were our under 20s and Ade Gardner played at second row. That was the peak of our injury crisis in 2011. So we have relied upon noobs before to see us through. The only difference between 2011 and 2013 injury crises is the presence or otherwise of James Roby.

If he is then that is exactly as I predicted. Gardner was utter garbage last week letting in more tries than I can remember yet he will always play, as indeed will Meli, regardless of form.

Its exactly the same team I was told yesterday but its subject to change with Brown. Its changed a good few times this year already.

About time we saw what Turner can do at 6 IMO in the circumstances, albeit I would have had a look in an "easier" game.

It's a shame we lose his strike out wide, but I have a feeling Turner at 6 could well be the answer until the end of the season or the unlikely return of a fit Wheeler.

Jones is capable in the centres and on the face of it this move is infinitelyy preferable to seeing Ashe/Lance/Howarth/Wellens at 6.

I can see the merit in Turner at 6, however at this stage of the season that surely puts the kybosh on Lance returning to 6 and Ashe.

I'm not overly bothered about that, but I can't see Turner being a 6 for next year. So we must be looking for a 6 for next year or there is huge faith in Wheelers fitness.

I'm never one to defend the Saints Fan, but the Makinson one is a bit of a puzzler to me. However we can't discount him being injured, or Brown pulling a fast one. But since Gardners performances of 2012, I've not seen as much this year to be enthusied about. Last year he had better go forward than Makinson returning the ball, but I think Makinson has improved in this area and his stats support this, he has as good a good forward as Meli in terms of average gain, he gets into dummy half to support his forwards. And is low on penalties.

To add to the valid points you made about Makinson, there is also the potential for a very pacey and skillful left edge combination between him, Percy and Manu. Manu had the same impact on Yeaman and Briscoe when at Hull. I think it would be foolish to split that threesome up as it could be a real strike threat as we enter the business end of the season. If Meli has to play then he should play on the right edge, with Turner as his centre. Gardner is a poorer winger than Makinson these days.

+1 for me. Pace outside Manu to capitilise on his offloads (like in the Leeds game). Percival will also be able to take advantage of any extra space crated by Manu sucking in defenders.
Meli on the other wing outside either Turner or Jones and Sia is a more physically punishing attack.

IMO our first choice back line is definitely:

Lomax
Meli
Turner
Percy
Makinson

I'm surprised if TM doesn't get a look in tonight, especially with Lomax out; he can count himself very unlucky if true.
