| I'm excited and nervous. I'm eagerly anticipating with a sense of dread... Fridays final visit to KR.
4174 days ago, I was sat on the steps upto the scaff, my first ever visit to KR. I'd always been a supporter, watching all televised games, but had never been taken (due to my family not being keen supporters). I remember cheering as Sullivan sprinted back to save a 40-20, with a dive Gordon Banks would be proud of. Watching Patch tear shreads out of Sheffield Eagles with his infamous "spinning into the tackle" technique, in a 39-30 win. Seeing the Saints legends such as Paul Newlove and Tommy Martyn, giving helping hands to Keiron Cunningham, Paul Wellens, Tony Stewart & Sean Long. Wondering which of our aforementioned youngsters would make it to stardom.
I suppose for me, its full circle. Its apt we finish with Huddersfield. The Huddersfield Giants of today, are the Sheffield Eagles of that day. I like to think I'm starting and finishing in the same place, I have conclusion. 17,500 on Friday please. Knowsley Road... She deserves it.
In 3 days time, it will be the last time I see my old friend. It will all be over. I've neglected you of late, but I still love you. It's been emotional. Farewell..!

My memoir and farewell of Knowsley Road - leeds.rlfans.com/readarticle.php?article_id=1490
It's a long way to Old Trafford,
It's a long way to go.
It's a long way to
It's a long way to Old Trafford
To the sweetest girl I know.
Goodbye Knowsley Road,
Farewell Walls as loo‘s,
It's a long, long way to Old Trafford
But my heart's right there.

I remember him sliding about 15 yards for that try. Also, Sullivan chasing someone down about 80 yards to knock the ball out of someones hands when scoring (can't remember who) which just shows Warrington's luck there in all it's glory.
Pretty sure my first game there was against Oldham, can't remember much about it. I would love to count the hours I've spent there, it's provided me with plenty of entrainment.

| Earliest recollection is being taken to a midweek 'A' team game by my Grandad in the early sixties and being confused cos Saints were playing in blue.
Going with my Dad in the seventies and not missing a home game when we had the first division sewn up by Christmas.
Taking my son to his first game 14 years ago, sitting him on the wall behind the sticks and letting 'the old ladies' look after him.
The 'sef-cleaning', eco-friendly, open-air urinals. A true historical monumnet insofar as five generations of the same family have peed up those walls.
Numerous 'hug a complete stranger' moments after last gasp wins.
Since 1996;
- The snow, fog, and torrential rain of 'summer rugby', elements braved by the hardy bunch who have stood in frony of the bungalow.
- Trudging away in philosophical mood after defeats to Quins, Catalans and Wakefield.
- The Hanley protests.
- The Millward sit-in.
- Wide to West
- The ritual slaughtering of the Wolfs
- 75 - 0
- And many, many more memories.

| The game i can recall most from a young age was we beat Trafford (i think) 112-0. It wasn't my first ever game but it's the game that really sticks in my mind as the one that got me hooked.
It's a weird feeling thinking about all the great moments ive seen and reading what others are on here. For me and others, it's not just the rugby but going there with your dad for first time then taking my own son.
It's not just a rugby thing but also a family thing.
From all the memories of the great tries, goals, games nothing felt better than standing at KR with my dad watching the saints.

I remember him carrying me out of the same game, so strong like he was made of iron. I remember having my first kiss there, a girl from St Helens called Hayley. I remember going to the games against Warrington fearing that elusive defeat would finally happen and I would be slaughtered in school, I remember the delight in it never materialising. You trying to make everyone on here cry? Fantastic post though and my thoughts are with you and your family.
Reading this thread has made me even more disappointed that I have to miss the last game, but needs must and I will be there in spirit and hope to hear you all singing loud and proud as we (hopefully) go out of the place in style.
I'm now looking forward to moving to the new ground and be being able to build new memories with my Son as he hopefully grows to love the new place as we all do Knowsley Road. He may be too young to ever remember it but I have the photos of his first (and last ) trip to Knowsley Road so when he is older he will be able to say has been!

He came with me to the CC match in May when he was 6 months. If we win the final then I will probably take him to the homecoming with me.
He is starting young though, when I rewatched the Cas match he sat cheering when KC scored!

Just glad somebody else has said that.
I've been going to KR for over 45 years but haven't the foggiest what my first match was. Like most people I was taken as a young kid by my dad who just lived and breathed Saints and RL. He rarely missed a home match even in ill health shortly before he died in 2005.
Definately time to reflect on Friday.

I can't remember my first game either, I remember being there as a kid sat on the wall but can't remember any more. The first game I remember was playing Paris the day Diana died as it was my first experience of a minutes silence at a game and after the game we went to meet the team. There again I have never been one to remember all the details of the games!

| Can't remember my first game :
I know I didn't see big Mal play but pretty certain I went before the Halifax Challenge Cup Final. We moved house in 1984 and I found a silk Saints scarf in the loft, that kinda started my interest off. My dad used to take me every now and again, then I started going with a few lads from school. I then got the bug and went to a couple of aways on my own in at the end of the 1991/92 season with the first of them being the 8 all draw at Cas when Bishop missed an easy conversion. I walked over the pitch at the end of the game and kicked the sand over, from the mound he had left from the goal kick, it was easy.
At the start of the 1992/93 season the first game was away to Leeds, I was gutted to miss the nilling of the pies in the Charity Shield at Gateshead the week before but then started going eveywhere with my cousin.
Does anybody know what seasons the games were live on ITV with Elton Welsby on a Saturday afternoon?

| What a somber thread.
I'm lucky really as my dad is still in good health and is coming to the match with us on Friday.
My first game was in 1978 and I was taken there by my dad. I think we played the Aussies and got pasted. I started going with my mates in the 83-84 season when some matches were on Granada on a Friday night. And running onto the pitch at full time.
Most memorable occasions are Les Quirk's try vs Hull in 1990-91 ish. 12 man saints knocking Wigan out of the cup. Wide to West - I ended up on my from the mad jumping up and down. I remember the gleaming faces of people looking down at me as I lay on the terrace. The 41-6 game against Wigan. The 5-4 loss to Wigan in the Lancashire cup when we had 25000 in the ground. They had Botica kicking and we had Bernard Dwyer because Lockers was injured. My son's first match when he was 4. He sat on my shoulders singing Come on you saints. He's now a 13 year old and has been coming with me ever since then. Although, he's more interested in snogging his girlfriend these days
I'll miss our lucky spot where we have to stand come rain or shine.
I'll miss the funny comments the old lads and lasses make to the opposition, touch judges and refs.
I'm dreading the end of Friday's match when it'll all be over.
