to be fair it's pretty hard to play any brand of rugby with the current squad with injuries.

We are to small and soft to take teams on up the middle and we not got players on the field to throw ball around.

When longy, maurie and even jc get back will make big difference

You would think so the reactions from some.

A lot of people predicted we would struggle today anyway which we did. We aren't on the greatest run of form at the moment but still in a pretty decent position overall.

I think it is just going to take time for some fans to get used to the fact that we can't always be the best and that defeats are going to become more and more regular - its the nature of the game that these things happen.

I can't recall to many games when DA had the likes of wheeler, ellis, dixon, ashurst all playing.

Potter has that every week.

Also the team is year older with longy and gilly leaving next year.


Potter IMO took huge risk in coming saints as the job he got is the most important in saints super league history.

Problem is, it's not the time to hit some bad form. One side of me is now glad we lost the semi, it looks like a week off is badly required.

But bloody hell, Everton get spanked and now Saints....can my weekend get worse?

You know, gateaux, sometimes you say some sensible things but other times you do talk daft.

Saints have a longstanding reputation as being (a) an attacking team and (b) a team that doesn't ever give up. We have been struggling in attack for months and we have more often than not given points away in the second half rather than be the ones to snatch the win. And in our last two games we have played worse in the second half than the first (our coach must be inspirational at halftime!). So our two fundamentals have gone: our attacking flair and our determination. I would suggest that it is these elements which are worrying fans, not that we are losing.

potter was brought in for his squad building abilities, a tough enough job without our injuries. I'll judge him around the middle of next year. Lets not forget either that hkr are a top 4 side who have had a week off, it was always going to be a very hard game.

not sure we got flair players anymore or the players that do the un noticed hard graft that gives the foundation to attack.

Lets be honest the team lacks pace and not many players that can beat a man.

We have the same players, pretty much, that we've had for the last few years.


We've had that issue all for a few years now but we were still successful.

Dixon, Ashurst, Armstrong, Ellis, Emmitt, Lomax, Wheeler, Eastmond (to a point) and Tony P are all what you'd class as 'new' players coming into the squad.

To be fair, we've been dodging bullets with a thin squad for a number of seasons now. It was a certainty we'd come up short at some point. I'm amazed we've not fallen apart more often...

Some of the players stated were released by the club , so they must take the consequences for that action.

Though tbf , the adage of 'releasing a year too early , rather than a year too late' may apply in one case.

Without sounding negative though, it does beg the question, if many people have seen this coming, officials at the club would have seen it too. Is it fair to just continue and then suddnenly get to a point where we cant even compete due to the lack of depth in the team? ? ?

I don't recall wheeler, eastmond, dixon and ashurst being 1st team regulars under DA.

In fact 1 year fozz and vinnie Anderson didn't make the 17 for 2 finals.

On the pace issue the team is year older and it's obvoius Gardner, wello and gidley ain't getting faster by the year.

I'd say only eastmond and pryce could score full length try in our team.

if we go on our recent recruitment it will take potter about 20 years to build a new squad.

I do think we will imrove a hell of a lot when longy, KC and maurie are all back playing.
