| Quote ="SaintsFan"Everybody knows St Helens Town is playing there as well but they are playing there at our convenience - in order to continue with Sport England funding - and not because we are subservient to a soccer club, which is the case for the mighty Wigan RLFC. If Saints want to play a game they play a game when they want to and Town have to sort out an alternative.
Incidentally, lots and lots of things are due to go on at Langtree Park. As our Chairman recently said, it is an events stadium where rugby league is sometimes played.'"
So what I wrote in reply to the person who said it was going to be an exclusively RL stadium was correct then. Thanks for clearing that up. BTW your first sentence is wrong as there's at least one person who didn't know St Helens Town were going to play there, hence my reply.

Nope. It is exclusively a rugby league stadium. A rugby league club owns it. Thus, it is exclusively a rugby league stadium.
It isn't a concert hall because concerts might be played there.
It isn't a church because weddings might be held there.
It isn't a night club because parties might go on into the night.
It isn't a youth club because young people may meet there and do stuff.
It is exclusively a rugby league stadium because it is owned by a rugby league club. It's just that other things go on there as well.
You're just being extremely silly.

I suggest you find out the meaning of the word exclusively, unless St Helens Town have changed sports.
Welcome to the wacky world of dual pitch markings.

St Helens Town played at Knowsley Road. Doh. It's useful extra revenue. Not as useful as the weddings, conferences, concerts, etc, etc will be but another bit of cash in the coffers and letting them play there attracts Sport England money.

I know they did. Lets face it the club aren't going to generate any new real income based on St Helens Town playing at the stadium. Saints have already had the income by selling the football club's ground years ago.

Are you blind? Or just being obtuse for the sake of starting an argument? Or just a troll maybe? Because I clearly said that by allowing Town to play at Langtree Park, Saints attract Sport England money. That's clearly income, and income worth attracting otherwise Saints wouldn't allow them to play. They nearly didn't, actually, and to be honest I'm not even sure they are doing in 2012 as nothing has been said by the club about it recently.

You obviously need to have a rethink about the level of income NW Counties teams attract in funding, it's not going to make much of a dent. Who'd have thought you'd get so defensive just because I pointed out to someone that something other than RL was going to be played at the stadium? Always ready to jump in with the size 10s without necessarily thinking it through.

Defensive? Hardly. You're just a nutjob.
You didn't need to point it out as I already knew it, assuming it's still the case. No doubt lots of things that aren't RL are going to be played at the stadium. I hope so anyway as I want Saints to prosper and part of that is for them to be able to raise revenue from other activities. That's the bonus of owning your own stadium: you have the freedom to choose who does what and when at your venue.
You never know, on one of those days when the Latics have kicked the mighty Wigan RLFC out of the Piedome, Saints may be good enough to allow you to play at their stadium. For a fee, obviously.

Couldn't wait to jump in when I simply pointed out football was going to be played there, when someone didn't realise it was. So in conclusion what I originally said was correct and didn't need the last page and a bit of someone doing her nut. Thanks for confirming who the "nutjob" is.

Not really because I'm not taking him seriously. I'm applying for a job and the little debate has been a useful redirection. Have you ever tried applying for a job you really, really want because it is really, really right for you? It's harder than applying for some crapo crap stuff that'll just get you off the dole.

A tiny little football club will play when we allow them too as it's our stadium and it's primary use is Rugby unlike the DW we will never have to move our fixtures around to suit a football club.
It is however nice to be able to explorer lots and lots of different options when looking to generate new revenue streams , I mean you lot cant even make money from selling pie's at Dave Whelan's stadium
Nice try.

Sorry for being in town with a premier league football team, I wish we could be just like you with only an RL team in town. Unfortunately we aint, however we have access to great facilities and for the money thats paid I dont see why the situation would change or need to. Well done on getting a new stadium, I think its great for Saints and RL in general. I am genuinly happy as are most rival fans that the north west clubs now have good quality modern stadiums. Hope the crowds come now.
Regardless of who gets primary use clashes will always happen. As in this case the premier league fixtures where drawn out ages ago and stated Wigan would play Man Utd on the monday. I hardly think that game could be moved before the RL fixtures are even announced. I somehow cant see either Latics or Man utd saying the game needs to be moved so that the Saints Wigan can play be played on Friday. Just like them I cant even see how the footy will effect the good friday game. All it will mean is the monday home game for the Warriors moved to the Tuesday. Which isnt a big deal considering sky have put games on that day in the past.

Exactly my point, yet theres an entire thread dedicated to evil Wigan trying to change the Good Friday game. Its a none issue yet has produced some incredible whinging and moaning about Wigan changing games. Glad to see some Saints fans can see there wont be a problem.
Look forward to Good Friday in your new ground.

No need to get so defensive simply because I stated a fact. As I support both Wigan Athletic and Wigan RL the who gets what from selling the pies isn't something I lose sleep over.
Nice try.

Who were the Latics Playing? Could be you saw an abundance of Saints RL stickers because they also support a footbal club who were playing the Latics that day (Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City, Everton) thus spending their money in Manchester/Merseyside etc!!! Just because you saw Saints RL stickers in Wigan at a Latics game does not automatically mean that they are there supporting Wigan Athletic FC.

| I vote this one of the best derailments of a thread. Very bored of it now. I'm off to the salford board to see what the hell is going on there. Coach gives up after 4 months in the job. Assistant swans off to play for preston grasshopper. I bet the board wish they had just hired the assistan t who was doing a very nice job of turning round the disaster that had been the start of their season.
