We will play a lot of away games early in the season and any home games we do have to play, we will play at Widnes. I bet that will affect season ticket sales even though some people will want to claim their seats for when the new ground opens.'"
Is it any wonder Saints have been over the salary cap with Colquitt around. How can he have a 60 week build and come up with being in the new ground for the 1st June?
I guess maths is not his strong point.
You can tell he is from sales / marketing.

A bit of positive spin?
I wouldn't be surprised if we spent the whole of next season camped at Widnus to be honest. The delays already experienced don't reassure me that a May 2010 start will actually happen, never mind a 60 week build!
I enjoyed listening to that programme. I missed it last night so thanks for the link Rogues.

| He said on the radio we would be in the new stadium by the 1st of June hopefully earlier, that tells me that the contract is for the stadium to be handed over no later than the 1st of June, a 60 week build gives a starting date to build the stadium at the 7th of April.

| You have to take what Colquitt said with a pinch of salt - he stated you were spending the full salary cap.
Seriously he sounded positive about it all. Confirmed Saints weren't involved in decision on appointing the contractor for the build but did say that Saints will own the stadium (I'm personally still not buying that one).

I struggle to see how you are spending the full salary cap given who have left and who has come in. Do you think you're spending the full salary cap?
In relation to stadium ownership there does seem to be a conflict between the contractual documents released via the council's website and the comments made by Colquitt on the radio.
Was it Colquitt who released the statment on supporters' meetings in February?
What I will say from listening to the radio show (did you?) was that I fully expect an announcemnet about the award of the building contract by Easter.
I'm not sure however whether the current "round-about" works need to be complete before the 60 week stadium build starts or whether the stadium fit-out is included within the 60 week period. Certainly the fit-out (corporate, offices, shop, etc) for Warrington's stadium was after the main build was complete.

If they say they are spending to the cap then I have no reason not to believe them. I have no idea what salaries our players are commanding just now. After all, we have a few internationals in the side who are very experienced players. It's only when we have injuries that we introduce our young guys, with the exception of Kyle who has taken the 7 spot.
Quote In relation to stadium ownership there does seem to be a conflict between the contractual documents released via the council's website and the comments made by Colquitt on the radio.'"
I don't see that conflict but you do. I suppose it is down to interpretation of the documents. Colquitt stated at the supporters' meeting I went to 18 months ago that Saints would own the stadium and he stated it again on the radio (and yes, I listened to the show) so I have no reason to disbelieve him.
Quote Was it Colquitt who released the statment on supporters' meetings in February?'"
I don't remember who released the statement. I read it on the Saints website. There is every possibility that they intended to hold the meetings in February. However, there was no excuse IMO for them not advising the fans that the meetings could not be held after all. That was poor by the club. But nothing new, I hasten to add. Saints club isn't well known for keeping its fans up to date on anything. My Dad reckons they have always been the same and he's been supporting Saints for 60 odd years.

Given that the (slightly optimistic I think) deadline of June has been given then I would imagine they are anticipating the stadium is fit for use by then, which would mean it's fitted out in full and ready to go as a working stadium in that time. I am sure the roundabout work and all the other infrastructure stuff around the stadium will take place at the same time as the clearance and construction.

| When asked when the stadium will be ready Colquitt replied the 1st of June, not about June or maybe June but June the 1st, a precise date, he also said it will be a 60 week build which gives a start date of the 7th of next month.
The info on the traffic boards give road works ending October, this date could give some credence to the rumour of Tesco wanting to open for Christmas.

I would agree with you on the communications bit. Abysmal to say the least. I have sent them at least 3 emails over the past couple of years and have not had a response. The sad thing is that Saints are probably like most other clubs in this department and then we wonder why we can't compete with Union for publicity.

IM in the building game and hope to get a contract on the saints stadia but i would be very shocked if tesco would be built and open by christmas.
We just did a job in widnes building M&S, NEXT, OUTFIT, COSTA COFFEE, NEW LOOK AND FEW OTHERS, that took just over 18 month and will open on 18th of this month.

Yes i appreciate that, infact its a similar design and build philosophy to Mcdonalds drive throughs.
I understand they are in effect Lorry sized containers that are bolted together. You can see this with the verticle columns at the front of the building.

| Weston's Grand Pier is nearly complete, will have taken about 8 months to build and furnish when it opens, maybe not the biggest of structures, but still a challenge given that it is at sea, am sure the stadium project will be built in 60 weeks.
