If you've seen the replay, you'll have noticed he was jogging and covering support. He wasn't even trying to catch SOL.
If you genuinely think that was Kyle at full pace trying to catch SOL, you must never have watched him play before.

I have watched him play on many occasions involved with coaching teams in the reserves trying to shut him down, he has always been sharp off the mark but not lightening quick at full speed but certainly not slow. While he still has that zip over a short distance although i think this has been affected this year a little he certainly seems to have lost a yard of pace.
To claim he was covering support is wrong he left him for dead from the off from a scrum against the head our support was only able to catch him once he had to change direction, he clearly skinned Eastmond.
If he was jogging right from the off I would question his attitude perhaps rather than his conditioning.

I think Wigan this year are leading the way with the conditioning, but the only conclusive evidence will come at the end of the season, but at the moment we are head and shoulders above most teams we have played in this respect.

You are probably right. However, conditioning improves as the season goes on, and players start to shed weight even more so during the summer months. I would be judging the conditioning of players around September/October time, we have fallen into that trap before.

| This talk of conditioning or lack thereof is just smoke and mirrors. We've no way of assessing the absolute or relative fitness of each SL squad. None. All I'm seeing is a lot of speculation based on eye-witness evidence which is hopelessly unreliable. Just because player X isn't getting back into the defensive line quickly enough doesn't mean his cardio is not up to it. He could be injured. Or he might just be trying to cheat his way into the 10m division. And you can't base an argument on the "look" of a player. I mean, Chris Joynt looked like he was about to collapse regardless of whether it was the first minute or the last.

This is the infamous Wigan conditioning that couldn't stop Warrington crossing their line in the last five minutes. The same Warrington who have shut out teams seven times in the second half this season?
Head and shoulders my absolute left, and right bollock.

There is much more to conditioning than stamina, and i would say we have let a few teams score late, but that is down to taking our foot off the gas and getting complacent rather than a conditioning issue.

You'll see how well conditioned you are in september/october. As you alluded to.
Any old bozos can look fit as fiddles early season, but it's a long, hard tiring season.

I always used to think that - he'd run out (maybe amble is more appropriate) for the warm up looking like he'd just run a marathon.

| It was good to see on Boots 'n' All that Joey Hayes is doing well at Saints as the Physio.
I have to admit I didn't know it was JH but as soon as the camera was close enough I could recognise him.

Didn't you know that there's no point anybody else competing now that Wigoon are four points clear at the top? It's futile.

Dont count on it, ive seen Gleeson picking up a curry after match nights many a time, including this season.
He gets his currys from Up holland in case anybody was wondering, and he looks a bit girly in his convertable (I would not tell him to his face though)

Immediatly after a game is the best time to take in a high amount of calories to refueal. Most players will have something along those lines.
JJB interviewed Adrian Morley in rugby league world and he said his favourite is a curry.

Nobody has ever clawed back such a gargantuan lead with a paltry 15 games plus left.
It just doesn't happen, give them the hubcap now.

| Good article from Millward in one of this weeks rugby papers. Talking about how sports science is the difference betwen SL and NRL. Most clubs in Oz use 'bodyflow' machines to flush toxins out of the body after every game. They cost 4 grand each and Melbourne have 24 of them, one for each squad member. The only club using them in SL is Wigan. So I think its harsh to criticise Saints conditioning, I think its more a fact that Wigan are just a lot fitter than everyone else this year. Using these machines and doing a proper recovery session in the pool would mean you would be fresh again after a couple of days, which in turn increases the amount of conditioning that can be done. Saints do recovery at David Lloyd the day after a gme then have the following day off, so its a few days before players are returning fresh. Thats my view anyway!

Buzzword machines that grant each user mythical fitness levels that just so happen to cost an arm and a leg.
There's one born every day.

| It's true, sports science is the future for us and the present for Australian teams. If we don't embrace it we will be left behind. There are all pluses to be gained from sports science and only downside - it costs money in investment.
