Good lad but he wasn't going to be in the first 17 next year. With ellis and foster coming up to cover back positions, so his dest deal wouldn't have come from us. Good luck to him.

I've not seen enough of ellis to say how I feel he will turn out but dixon will be a squad player.
Dixon IMO won't be good enough for a 1st team spot.

He just needs to adapt his game properly and we will have a good ball handling second rower on our hands.

I agree SKi.
Young Dixon is a second row on a progression path and accomplishing a great deal to date. I suspect he has worked far harder at learning his trade than St. Pete ever has at his.
Those who seek instant gratuity are better off finding another club. Developing second rowers and especially props is a far tougher task than bringing backs through.
The investment in Frodsham, Dixon and maybe to a lesser extent, Ashurst will pay dividends in the future.

3 games bad 1 game good. I think that he would actually be better running out wide at some smaller men. He has struggled to be consistent this season running down the middle.
So I have not binned him, I just wouldnt have him in my first 17 and when he does come in, i would have him as a second rower. Kind of a Freddie Tuilagi mark 2.
I agree the bench looks average but i am sure more young players would come through as the season progressed to strengthen it.
Quote ="Blobbynator"He's binned Wellens aswell.'"
Why play a past it full back in the second row. We have much better second rowers than Wellens. You either have to play him at full back and accept that he isn't going to be great or you have to bin him. I have chosen the later.

a few classes below'" Come on Simon you must do better!! The stats never tell the full story!! Ali has played less games and about half the game time!! Ali has been a match winner at club level in the nrl and sl and at international level, Ali is regarded as on of the most magical ball playing forwards in the world!! When has clough ever produced the individual try scoring ability that Ali has? Where was clough whilst Ali was winning the 07 gf!! Agreed clough has a big future in the game but compared to Ali he has a long long way to go! Clough has to prove a lot at many levels before he can been seen in the same class as Ali

Because thats the main thing you want from a forward, and cloughy was in our academy in 2007!
For a experienced prop who is a full 2 stone heavier than cloughy and 2" taller you would expect him to make more metres, not over 1000 less in only 3 games less!
As i said i'm happy with cloughy and i imagine you're happy with Ali, so everyone's happy! ![Very Happy icon_biggrin.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_biggrin.gif)

I can understand the argument, about wanting somebody with more pace at fullback. However why do people blindly think that Wellens will be better at second row, than any of our other second rowers? I think he would be okay in the forwards, but I don't see him being first choice there, and he wouldn't make the bench.

Lauititi is a far better ball handling forward than Clough is, but Clough makes far more hard yards. In some respects (and this is off me not watching him every week) I don't think Lauititi likes the hard work needed at prop and was far more effective runnning wide in the second row.
I fully agree with you with your last few sentences, Clough has a lot of improving to do before he can be classed in the same league as Lauititi, hopefully for Saints and for Englands sake he can make that progression.

I think it's more a case of keeping him in the team for his experience, yet taking him out of the position that is now exposing his weaknesses almost week in week out.
Of all the positions in the team, the back row is probably more suited to him than any other.
